Moment when the hero cop rushes to save the child who fell through an icy pond in Arkansas

New footage shows the moment an Arkansas hero saved the life of a young child who fell through an icy pond.

Officer Troy Ellison of the Jonesboro Police Department had responded to a 911 call about a boy who fell through a frozen pond off Gladiolus Drive on Jan. 21.

The officer is seen running through the snow and jumping over a fence toward the unknown boy, who can be heard crying in the video.

Footage shows two women witnessing the heroic officer approaching the boy, saying, “Okay buddy… I get it, I get it.”

Ellison is then seen getting down on his hands and knees and is heard saying, “I gotcha, I gotcha” as the young boy speaks incoherently.

As the officer continues to reassure the child, Lt. Shon Morris of the Jonesboro Fire Department, along with other officers, is seen throwing a rope at the boy and pulling him out.

Ellison is then seen getting down on his hands and knees and is heard saying, “I gotcha, I gotcha” as the young boy speaks incoherently.

Ellison and the other officers then quickly pull the boy out of the icy water.

The child is wearing a red hoodie, jeans and sneakers and was taken to a local hospital for possible cold weather injuries.

The police department later praised the brave officers on Facebook.

The mail read: '”Great job” goes to one of our officers who responded to a call about a child falling through the ice in a local pond.

“Officer Troy Ellison responded when he arrived on scene. He quickly found the child, crawled onto the ice and brought the child to safety with the help of Lt. Shon Morris and members of the Jonesboro Fire Department. The child was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for cold weather injuries.”

The department also warned residents to stay away from frozen water.

'Please keep in mind that no matter how cold the temperatures get this winter, playing on the ice is never safe. Fortunately, this conversation had a very happy ending.'

This comes two weeks after footage was released of an eight-year-old Vermont girl being rescued by two heroic officers after she and her younger sister fell into a frozen pond on private property.

The unidentified child and her six-year-old sister were playing near and on the surface of the pond when the thin ice broke and both girls fell into it on December 17.

The 80-year-old homeowner of the property was able to reach the six-year-old and pull her to safety when she was near shore, but was unable to reach the eight-year-old after she drifted into the middle of the pond.

The elderly homeowner quickly called 911 for help and State Trooper Michelle Archer, who was on routine patrol in the area, responded immediately.

Footage shows Archer arriving on scene in less than five minutes and quickly grabbing a throwing rope and flotation device from her cruiser.

She was then seen taking off her duty belt and jumping into the icy pond to save the crying girl.

Video shows the brave officer holding the girl and swimming back to shore as State Trooper Keith Cote helps pick up the girl and carries her to a waiting Cambridge Rescue ambulance.
