Deadpool & Wolverine trailer: Ryan Reynolds makes R-rated jokes and introduces himself as Marvel Jesus before confronting X-Men icon Hugh Jackman
An official trailer for the upcoming superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine was released on Sunday.
In the clip, Ryan Reynolds was seen in character as the Merc With A Mouth, as he prepared to take on the Time Variance Authority and decide the fate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The feature film – which wrapped production last month – also marks the official return of Hugh Jackman to his old role as James 'Logan' Howlett, better known as Wolverine.
The trailer opened with Deadpool, whose real name is Wade Wilson, celebrating his birthday in the company of some of his friends, and he gives a short speech in which he kindly proclaims himself the “luckiest man alive.”
The superhero is then visited by TVA agents, and after they pull out the electric batons, he fires off an R-rated gag. “Pegging isn't new to me, buddy, but it is new to Disney,” before looking at the camera.

Deadpool is pulled through a portal and wakes up in the company of Paradox, played by Matthew Macfadyen, and after informing the mercenary that he had unknowingly soiled himself, Reynolds' character joked, “I wasn't unconscious.”
Paradox informs the superhero that he has “an opportunity to be a hero among heroes” and leads him to a control room containing footage created by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After Deadpool pushes his way toward a Wolverine-like figure lounging in a casino, the character says, “Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever.” I am the messiah. I am… Wonder Jesus.”
The superhero then takes on several TVA agents in different locations, and after one is chased away by an unseen force, he exclaims, “Oh my fuck!”
The mercenary proceeds to violently dispatch several attackers with both guns and his signature katanas, and Pyro, played by Aaron Stanford, comments, “God, I love this part!”
Deadpool is later shot through a cement slab and is approached by Wolverine, who remains off-screen as the former jokes, “Don't just stand there, you monkey, give me a hand up.”
Wolverine then shows off his claws, and the trailer ends after Wilson remarks, “No, I'm actually fine, thank you very much!”
Development of Deadpool & Wolverine began in late 2010, and in December 2019 the feature was confirmed to be in the works.

Jackman had been courted to return to his old role for several years, and Reynolds, who he has been friends with for years, confirmed that the performer would reprise his role as Wolverine in September 2022.
Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin and Jennifer Garner will also appear in the feature, with the latter two reprising their roles as Vanessa and Elektra respectively.
Production on the film began in May 2023, and after filming was suspended due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, filming finally wrapped last January.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in the UK on July 25 and will debut in the US the following day.
