Delta Goodrem reflects on her heartbreaking battle with cancer after being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at 18: ‘I was a young girl fighting for my life’
Delta Goodrem looks back on her brave battle against cancer 20 years later.
The Australian singer was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma on July 8, 2003, when she was just 18 years old.
In a recent interview, Delta talked about the tough struggle she faced as a teenager.
“I was a young girl with doctors explaining that I had to fight for my life,” she told the Daily telegram.
The same week Delta, now 38, received her diagnosis, her debut album Innocent Eyes topped the charts.

“I was diagnosed with cancer the same week I debuted around the world,” she added.
‘I’m so thankful that 20 years later we’re making music here. It’s quite a moment.’
The Born to Try hitmaker was unable to tour her debut album due to cancer treatment.

She said she was thrilled to finally be able to tour the Innocent Eyes album and play songs “in that chapter” that fans have never heard live.
“That record had been number one for eight months and I never could have played some of these songs live. This is a moment when the circle is complete.’
Delta started talking about her battling cancer and how it has affected her life countless times in the past.
In a moving interview with WHO magazine in 2020, she said of the diagnosis, “It was like a bomb had gone off.”
“I remember when I was first told I had cancer my body went into shock and shook uncontrollably for the next 24 hours,” Delta added.
Delta lost her hair from chemotherapy and said the changes in her appearance were “confrontational.”
She went through a year of cancer treatment.
This included eight months of chemotherapy and two months of radiotherapy.
“It was very hard to feel beautiful in the outward sense — my skin color had a green tint, there were a lot of steroid effects, and it was hard to feel good,” Delta said.
After beating cancer, Delta said her health remains her priority.
