PIZZA chain Domino's is in danger of truly letting Italians down by launching pasta-inspired lasagna and carbonara versions.
One world-leading chef from the birthplace of classic dishes blew his mind at the 'crazy' idea.
And one excited Twitter user said of the combination: “Clearly Domino's has declared war on Italy.”
The Ultimate Lasagna Pizza combines a rich cheese sauce, ground beef, tomatoes, onion, herbs and mozzarella, topped with a drizzle of tomato sauce.
And the Ultimate Carbonara has creamy cheese sauce, smoked bacon, mushrooms and mozzarella.
But Michele Pascarella, crowned Global Pizza Maker of the Year 2023, told The Sun last night: “Italian people wouldn't eat these pizzas.
“If I put this on my menu, my customers would think I was crazy.”
The Naples-born founder of the acclaimed pizzeria Naples in Chiswick, west London, was also raging: “There are no mushrooms in a carbonara, no cream in carbonara.
“Bacon? Absolutely not.”
But Domino's innovation director Louise Pilkington said: “Nothing says homely comfort quite like the classic Italian flavors of lasagna or carbonara.
“So why not put them on a pizza?”
