DR Congo star Ruth Kipoyi has angered football fans after punching a Moroccan player in the face.

The incident took place during DR Congo’s friendly match with Morocco on Monday, June 3.

With the score at 2-1 in favor of the Moroccans, the 26-year-old was shown a red card for an aggressive challenge.

This enraged several opponents so much that they got involved, causing a fight between the two teams.

Yasmine Mrabet decided to calm Kipayi down, but the striker who plays for Galatasaray unleashed a left hook to her jaw, sending her to the grass.

A video of the incident is making the rounds on social media and fans are furious with Kipoyi.

Some people are calling for serious punishments, with one X user (formerly Twitter) saying: ‘Should be a prison sentence for assault.’

Another fan didn’t feel so strongly, but still didn’t hide his anger: “Not a lifetime ban, but definitely a long-term ban.” Together with a hefty fine

Morocco went on to win the match 3–2, and after the final whistle, Mrabet, the player beaten by Kipoyi, issued a statement via Instagramregarding the incident.

She said: ‘This violent behavior should not be accepted. During the competition, disagreements may arise and tensions will increase, but there are lines that should never be crossed…
