Dr Michael Mosley’s last social media post revealed – after Mail health guru’s body is found following five-day search on Greek holiday island

Dr. Michael Mosley’s latest social media post included a warm nod to his wife Dr. Clare Bailey before his body was found on the Greek holiday island of Symi.

The TV doctor and the postal columnist body was discovered in a rocky area today next to Agia Marina after a treacherous five-day search in the scorching heat.

Dr. Mosley had been on the beach of Agios Nikolaos with friends on Wednesday before going for a walk alone to the center of the island.

On May 25, he wrote his last ever social media post, a response to a fan who asked him if he’d ever heard the Dead Ringer’s parody of himself.

Dr. Mosley replied: ‘I have… I’m not convinced I actually sound like that, but my wife Clare says it’s exactly right.’

One parody, included in series 21, episode 4 of Dead Ringers, mimicked Dr. Mosley after.

The parody read: ‘I’m Doctor Michael Mosley, Jolly Paddington. Bear from doctors. Except I’m giving out fewer marmalade sandwiches and more diagnoses of type 2 diabetes.

‘This is just one thing. Each week I’ll show you just one thing you can do to live a healthier, happier life and possibly survive a few extra months.

‘Last week I showed how we can improve our gut bacteria by eating from the drain.

‘This week I’m going to look at just one thing you can do to recover from seeing Matt Hancock’s CCTV footage. My one simple tip is: gouge your eyes out.

“Come with me next week and I’ll watch a daily round of Russian Roulette. Can help with mindfulness, cheerio.’

The health guru’s wife Dr Bailey today paid an emotional tribute to her husband of almost 40 years, saying: ‘I’m not sure where to start with this. It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly happy life together.

‘We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am extremely proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past few days.

“My family and I have been deeply comforted by the outpouring of love from people around the world. It is clear that Michael meant a lot to many of you.

‘We take comfort in the fact that he almost made it. “He made an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed in a place where he was not clearly visible to the extended search team.”

Dr. Bailey, who shares four children with Dr Mosley, added: ‘Michael was an adventurous man, it’s part of what made him so special. We are so grateful to the extraordinary people at Symi who worked tirelessly to help find him.

“Some of these people on the island, who had never heard of Michael, worked from dawn to dusk without being asked. We are also very grateful to The Press, who have treated us with great respect.

“I feel so lucky to have our children and my wonderful friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael.”

Mimi Spencer, who co-wrote The Fast Diet with Dr Michael Mosley, also paid tribute to Dr Mosley as ‘instantly likeable, genuinely funny’ and said she will ‘miss him terribly’.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4, she said: ‘In person he was exactly the kind of character you would see on television: immediately likeable, genuinely funny, enthusiastic, he had an innate enthusiasm about life and he was always very generous with his money. time.

“He had a brilliant line in a tangential anecdote that also comes out of his broadcasts, that his thoughts would go down rabbit holes and come out with fantastic bits of information, and talking to him in person was a lot like that, you never knew absolutely. where you would arrive, but the journey was always fascinating.”

She said Mosley “used himself as a human guinea pig” and was “fascinated by the science of it.”

Ms Spencer said she believes the 5:2 intermittent fasting plan and the Fast Diet gave him so much joy ‘because it benefited so many people’.

Mrs Spencer added: ‘Funnily enough he could also be quite self-deprecating in person, and actually quite shy. So he never blew his trumpet; he was quite a humble person.

“I think when he had success, whether it was on TV or through his books, he was quite blindsided by it, he didn’t expect it, and that really speaks to the man; that he kept that humility all the way through.”

Police arrived about 20 minutes after the body was discovered face up about 90 meters from the shoreline in Agia Marina. At around 2:09 pm local time, firefighters arrived at the marina by boat and carried an orange stretcher and a large black bag to where the body was found.

Other people in plain clothes got out of the white speedboat and took their suitcases up the rocky hill.

After about half an hour, a group of six firefighters collected Dr. Mosley carefully and placed it on the orange stretcher.

It was then taken to a jetty, loaded onto a small white tender and taken to a mortuary on the island of Rhodes for a post-mortem.

Two forensic officers remained at the scene and examined the area where the body was found, but declined to comment as they left.

Just after 2pm local time, the coroner’s team arrived and, wearing face masks, began examining the body and the area around it.

Someone could be seen taking photos of the area, pausing occasionally to adjust the face mask he was wearing with his gloved hands.

Minutes later, a group of three rescuers also arrived with an orange plastic stretcher.

At one point, two members of the coroner’s party appeared to have picked up a backpack that was separated from the body by about twenty feet.

It previously emerged that the adult children of Dr. Mosley, Alex, Jack, Dan and Kate, were just 100 yards from where the body was found when they retraced their father’s steps yesterday.

It appeared that the Mail columnist had walked past the beach bar of Agia Marina and was heading towards the sea.

The temperature at the time was around 37 degrees Celsius and although he had a bottle of water with him, the heat would have made it incredibly difficult.

It appeared that he may have been trying to reach the sea, as his body was only a few meters from the shore. A source said the signature umbrella he was carrying at the time was close to him.

At the time of his disappearance, there was an extreme heat warning from the Greek Meteorological Agency, with temperatures expected to reach a sweltering 38 degrees Celsius – unusual for early June.
