Dramatic moment as a car drives into the gates of Buckingham Palace as armed officers surround the vehicle and arrest the driver
A driver has been arrested after crashing a car into the gates of Buckingham Palace.
Dramatic footage shows armed police surrounding the driver, who is on his knees, shouting: “Keep your hands on your head!”
Officers emerged after the vehicle rammed into the main entrance of the royal residence in Westminster, central London.
According to police, a man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
A witness to the incident, who asked to remain anonymous, said he saw the scene unfold around 2.30am on Saturday after hearing ‘a loud bang’.
He said: ‘I heard a loud bang and I looked over and the car had crashed into Buckingham Palace.
“The police arrived quite quickly and they pulled the man out and arrested him.”
According to the Met, there have been no reports of injuries.
A police spokesperson said: “At around 2.30am on Saturday 9 March, a car collided with the gates of Buckingham Palace.
“Armed officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage. He has been taken to hospital.
“There were no reports of injuries. The circumstances are under investigation.”
