The retailer sells everything from furniture to curtains, blinds and storage products, and regularly hosts sales for customers.

But you can get cash back on select items 365 days a year through the retailer’s “Returns Outlet” page on its website.

Some UK shoppers can also get discounts of up to 70% at three Dunelm outlet stores.

Shoppers who use the Returns Outlet page can get discounts on beds, sofas, living room furniture and soft furnishings such as armchairs.

All products were purchased by customers but then returned to the retailer.

There are currently seven items for sale on the page, with discounts of up to 10%.

We saw a Mito double futon reduced from £209 to £188.10 and a Blake curved velvet L-shaped sofa for £791.10 down from £879.

The discounts may not seem big, but the items are essentially brand new and Dunelm’s website says its staff checks all returned items to ensure they are in good condition.

The costs for having the returned items delivered to your home are the same as when purchasing new items.

Dunelm’s website states that if you need to return an item from the Returns Outlet because it is faulty, it can offer you a refund or repair, but you cannot exchange items.

If you’re looking for bigger discounts, you may be able to get 70% off if you live near Staffordshire, Bradford or Greater Manchester.

Mum finds three genius ways to dry clothes without a tumble dryer, or taking up too much space, and one costs £5 from Dunelm

Dunelm has three physical outlet stores in Fenton in Stoke-on-Trent, Bradford and Rochdale.

The branches stock ex-display products and items that are subject to wear and tear at huge discounts.

Shoppers can purchase like-new items at 30% off, slightly damaged items at 50% off, or items with more wear and tear at 70% off.

All three outlet stores have dedicated Facebook pages where you can view the latest discounts.

Other little known outlet stores

Dunelm isn’t the only retailer offering customers returned or damaged items at discounted prices.

Ikea’s ‘Circular Hub’ can be found in all branches of the Swedish retailer, usually at the checkouts, and offers customers huge discounts.

Shoppers have been posting online blinds they found at their local hub for £3.20 instead of £5.

Others have found £200 coffee tables selling for £60 and blinds for £1.29 instead of £69.

Office Offcuts also offers shoppers discounts on shoes with light wear, with discounts of up to 94%.

How to compare prices to get the best deal

JUST because something is on sale or is part of a sale, it doesn’t mean it’s always a good deal.

There are plenty of comparison websites that will check prices for you, so don’t pay more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing prices from hundreds of retailers.

Here are some we recommend:

  • Google Shopping is a tool that allows users to search for products and compare prices on the Internet. Simply enter keywords or a product number to display search results.
  • Praise spy records the history of how much something costs at more than 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product, you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have them in stock.
  • Ideal is another website that allows you to compare prices between retailers. All shoppers have to do is search for the item they need and the website ranks them from cheapest to most expensive.
  • CamelCamelCamel Only works on goods sold on Amazon. To use it, enter the URL of the product you want to check the price of.

There are currently women’s high heels on sale for £3 instead of £52, women’s Chelsea boots for £18 instead of £90 and men’s sandals for £12 instead of £35.

Schuh also has a similar page on its website for ex-display items with similar discounts.

We spotted high heels for €6 instead of €40 and sliders for just €4 instead of €20.

Shoppers can also buy suede loafers for £6 (from £26).
