When you think about schools that educate A-list celebrities, you might conjure up thoughts of the Princess of Wales's alma mater, Marlborough College, the many politicians of Eton, or the toddlers in hats at Harrow School.

Not only are there expectations for students learning Latin and playing lacrosse, but there is also an exorbitant price tag to fund it.

So a school LondonThe Borough of Hackney might not be suitable. Well, think again.

A little-known school has challenged the stereotype that VIPs must come from one of Britain's largest educational institutions: Stoke Newington School and Sixth Form.

Nestled between hippie shops, kebab houses and leafy Clissold Park, the co-educational school has produced stars for generations – and it's free.

Sex education star Asa Butterfield, 26, who found fame in the 2008 film adaptation of Boy in the Striped Pajamas, attended Stoke Newington School.

Another famous actor to have attended the institute is 51-year-old Saffron Burrows, who starred in Westworld, Everything I Ever Wanted to Tell My Daughter About Men, and, more recently, the Netflix series You, which also attended the school went.

Stoke Newington School's famous graduates also include major figures in the food world – with British baker and Junior Bake Off judge Liam Charles also in attendance.

In the music world, famous alumni include singer-songwriter Labrinth (real name Timothy Lee McKenzie), 34, and rapper Professor Green (real name Stephen Paul Manderson).

Actor Adam Deacon, boxer Lawrence Okolie, cyclist Tao Geoghegan Hart and Arsenal woman Lotte Wubben-Moy were also present.

The school is rated 'Good' by Ofsted and therefore just misses the top score of 'Outstanding' – but given the number of high achievers the school has produced, the teachers are certainly doing something right.

With a theatre, sound recording studio, photography darkroom, media suites, sound recording studio, television studio and dance studio, the school is well equipped to inspire interest in life in the media.

The children can also gain practical experience with the school's partnerships.

Acclaimed performing arts center Sadler's Wells Theater has joined forces with the school to promote dance among its students.

Elsewhere, a 'Headlines' program encourages children to speak out about the issues that move them most, including on national television including SKY, BBC and ITV.

Sport also remains a priority. The school sharpens their skills through Jus Ball, a mentorship program for athletes based on research by experts in motor skill acquisition.

The wealth of partnerships is a clear advantage, with the subjects matching those of their stars, from award-winning actors to a Giro d'Italia-winning cyclist.

However, creative thinking is not limited to the dance floor or the photo studio, but extends to the classroom.

'Here at Stoke Newington School, our curriculum supports a culture rooted in high expectations for all, which cultivates a love of learning and ambition for success,' the website says.

“We have a culture rooted in high expectations for all, which cultivates a love of learning and ambition, along with a strong sense of belonging.”

On the day of the GCSE results, 70 percent of the cohort achieved a 9-4 in English and maths.

Meanwhile, 21 percent of A-level students at Stoke Newington School this year achieved an A* or an A, 47 percent received an A*, A or B grade and 66 percent of students achieved top grades – A* , A , B or C – during their exams.

Headteacher Zehra Jaffer, who has held the position since 2019, revealed in a statement that the school's sixth form is 'oversubscribed and successful'.

Jaffer described the school on the school's website as “vibrant, diverse and inclusive” and “delivering excellence for all.”

In her letter of introduction for the role, she wrote: 'We are at the heart of our local community in North Hackney and strive to provide every student with an inspiring learning journey.

'We believe that all our young people have the potential to achieve at school and succeed in life.

'We ensure that students flourish at our school, regardless of their starting point or individual circumstance.'

The location of the school, Stoke Newington, is of course also suitable for creative people.

Known to locals as Stokey, the residential area has a relaxed atmosphere with quirky features and woodland, as well as being close to central London.

Perhaps adding to the buzz of A-List alumnae at Stoke Newington school are their once very trendy parents who settled in the area and instilled star-like qualities in their children.

Either way, they've proven that celebrities don't need to have forty thousand schools a year on their resume to become the stars of our generation.
