EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Mystery as Prince Andrew’s favorite club Tramp – where stars such as Michael Caine, Peter Sellers and Keith Moon once played – closes its doors

Could this be enough to make even Prince Andrew break out in a sweat?

Tramp, the London nightclub where he would dance around the dance floor with Virginia Roberts, has abruptly closed its mouth – under baffling circumstances.

There was no inkling of impending drama when Tramp presented Idris Elba four weeks ago as the Luther star celebrated the launch of his new rose champagne, Porte Noire.

But just a fortnight later, five key directors – including Guy Sangster, son of the late horse breeding magnate Robert Sangster, and Kevin Doyle, who took over the club for £4 million in 1998 – resigned in unison from the holding company that now owns Tramp.

I was told that members, who pay an annual subscription of £1,000, were subsequently ‘shocked’ when they received an email informing them that the club had closed because it had been ‘sold’.

A fashion show, which was due to take place there this week after months of planning, appears to have become the first casualty of the closure. ‘I got a call saying the club had been sold and that my event was being canceled unless I could pay £2,000 in advance,’ says one organizer. ‘It’s very sad. I have had a great relationship with Tramp for years.’

Calls to the club are politely answered but provide no relief, with an articulate young woman merely confirming that Tramp is closed.

“We are not issuing a statement at this time,” she tells me. ‘If anything changes in the coming weeks, or [when]someday it may be, [we] will contact you.’

The club’s founder, the ever-affable Johnny Gold, who died two years ago at the age of 89, is said to have been appalled – and especially shocked that Tramp had fallen silent during the party weeks before Christmas.

The son of a Brighton bookmaker, he and two business partners – one of them, Oscar Lerman, husband of bonkbuster novelist Jackie Collins, sister of Joan – opened the club in 1969.

Gold, who perfectly judged the spirit of the times, presided over a box where stars such as Sir Michael Caine and Peter Sellers and society miscreants such as Dai Llewellyn, the son of the ‘Seducer of the Valleys’ baron, played in uninhibited fashion. could relax.

This also applies to the Rolling Stones and others from the emerging rock world, none with more enthusiasm than Keith Moon, drummer of The Who.

On one particularly percussive occasion, he lowered a 17th-century chandelier into a cascade of falling plaster. He was banned – but only for 48 hours. He then returned to the club naked, tied to the hood of a white Rolls-Royce.

Kylie Minogue admits she was curious about Las Vegas until Adele’s residency inspired her to create her own 20-show extravaganza.

“Vegas seemed more suitable for the twilight of your career, but in the meantime it has undergone a rejuvenation,” says the singer. ‘My ticket fear is real. I have a lot of shows where I have ticket anxiety, especially this one.”

Kylie doesn’t have to worry – her £1,978 per person VIP packages have already sold out.

The Apprentice star Karren Brady is soon going to be one of our most glamorous grandmas.

Her daughter, model Sophia Peschisolido, has revealed she is expecting her first child. Sophia, 25, who is engaged to Frankie Makin, an investment advisor, shared a video online of herself cradling her baby bump on a beach.

“Our greatest blessing in 2024,” says Sophia, whose father is Canadian ex-footballer Paul Peschisolido – the husband of Baroness Brady of Knightsbridge.

Lady Brady, 54, once said raising children was harder than going to work.

Gangster film director Guy Ritchie, who bought a stately home in Wiltshire while married to Queen of Pop Madonna, is dismissive of the idea that class holds people back.

“I’ve never understood a definition of class society,” Ritchie, 55, the son of an advertising executive, tells Gentleman’s Life magazine. “It falls apart very quickly once you scrutinize it. I have never found it applicable in practice.’

He became the nation’s favorite gym teacher during lockdown – but Joe Wicks has fallen off the map when it comes to fitness.

“I feel like I haven’t stopped eating in the last three weeks,” the Body Coach ‘guru’ admits online. ‘I actually ate my emotions. I feel stressed and self-destructive every day and eat everything I find.’

Wicks, 38, who was awarded an MBE for his services to fitness, added: ‘[I’m] I eat a lot of ultra-processed food, thinking it will make me feel better, but it doesn’t. [It] I just feel sluggish, cranky and bloated.”

Sir Nicholas Coleridge could not resist speaking to George Osborne at his farewell party at the Victoria and Albert Museum, where he was chairman. Ex-Chancellor Osborne is chairman of the British Museum, where around 2,000 artefacts were stolen. Speaking to guests, Coleridge said: ‘This may sound hubristic, but I am quite certain that all 2.8 million V&A treasures are safely tucked away in bed tonight, and that nothing has gone missing in the last ten years.’
