Emma Stone didn’t let a wardrobe malfunction get in the way of her Oscar win.
“Oh boy, my dress is torn,” said Stone, 35, as she accepted the best actress award for her role as Bella Baxter in Poor things on Sunday March 10. “I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken,’” Stone joked, referencing Ryan Gosling‘s performance earlier in the evening, in which she delivered the lyrics as he handed her the microphone.
Styled by Petra FlanneryStone wore a custom Louis Vuitton peplum dress with a strapless neckline and fitted skirt. As she stood up to accept the award, the custom creation’s zipper appeared open, exposing the torn fabric. Stone clutched the back of the dress as she rushed to the stage to deliver her emotional speech.
In addition to addressing the fashion flaw, Stone expressed her gratitude and appreciation for being considered for the honor.
“This is really overwhelming. My voice is also a bit gone. Whatever. The women in this category, you are all incredible. Sandra, Annet, Concern, Lily“I’m sharing this with you,” Stone said of her fellow nominees. “I am deeply honored to share this with every cast member, everyone who put their love into making this film. Thank you for the gift of a lifetime in Bella Baxter. I want to thank my family… my husband, Daaf, I love you so much – and especially my daughter, who will be three in three days. Don’t look at the back of my dress.’
Before her win, Stone cheered Poor things‘ beauty team when they took home the trophy for Best Makeup and Hair Styling.
In a clip shared via Instagram, the actress was chatting in the lobby when she realized the film had won. She quickly ran through the crowd to look Nadia Stacey, Mark Coulier And Josh Weston thanks to the Academy.
Poor things is an eccentric film that follows Stone’s Bella, a headstrong young woman in Victorian London who is brought back to life via a brain transplant and embarks on a journey of self-discovery.
