Eric McCormack and woman Janet Leigh Holden McCormack have separated and are getting divorced.
Janet has filed for divorce from the Will & Grace alum, 60, on Wednesday, November 22, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, We weekly can confirm. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split, but no date of separation was given. TMZ was the first to report the split.
The court does not document that Janet requested Eric pay both spousal support and attorney fees. She asks for no support from Eric and wants an equal division of the property.
The couple welcomed son Finnigan in July 2002. He is now 21, so the divorce will not address the details of custody.
Eric and Janet married in 1999, five years after they first met while filming Lonely Pigeon.
“I met my wife, Janet, in 1994 on the set of a TV series. She was the assistant director,” said the actor The guard in 2007. “I just got out of a relationship and couldn’t be trusted. I dated actresses, but Janet was different. She wore jeans, drove a pickup truck… At first she wasn’t too excited about it. She knew that acting is a lot of work: it would be like taking your work home with you. But I managed to convince her.”
The Canadians (both have dual citizenship in Canada and the US) had to keep their romance on the down low because they were colleagues. “The first season we had a secret affair. I mean, dating the crew!” he added. “It was actually much worse for her because she wasn’t supposed to give any of the actors preferential treatment.”
He shared a photo from their early days via Instagram in April 2020. “This is the first photo Janet and I took at the #LonesomeDove Season 1 Wrap Party, circa December ’94. Coincidentally, this was our coming out party,” he captioned the photo. “No one on the show knew we had been dating for months.🤯And *today* is my wife’s birthday! 🍰Happy birthday, @janetmccormack #gratitude.”
The couple has remained rather low-key and avoided the Hollywood spotlight, but they have typically been spotted at a few red carpet events throughout the year. Janet and Eric were regulars at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s annual Oscars party, which they attended in March. They were also seen smiling at Broadway’s opening night in July The little housein which McCormack starred, in New York City.
