‘Falling asleep on her shoulder was quite embarrassing’: Find out if it’s a match on this week’s Blind Date

ALISHA, 26

Single for five years.

DATING PAST?

I’ve pretty much always been single, aside from dating people briefly over the years. However, I am a hopeful romantic and dream of the right man coming along soon. . . I’ve waited a long time!

NERVES BEFORE DATE?

The idea of a blind date is strange, but it also gives freedom to not have expectations or preconceived ideas about what the other person will be like, like on dating apps.

Alisha, 26, is a team leader in the automotive industry. She has been single for five years and is looking for someone who is charming, funny, ambitious and a hard worker

FIRST IMPRESSION?

He was very loud – much more so than the other guests around us – and energetic. He’s clearly up for a laugh. He looks good too. I liked how well dressed he was in a nice beige top. We had a quick, friendly hug when I arrived.

EASY TO TALK TO?

He is not shy at all and the conversation flowed easily without any awkward silences. I liked it.

I was impressed to find out that he is a fan of musical theater, which I didn’t expect. We had a nice joke and an easy conversation. But he drank a lot of beer, both on the date and during the hour and a half we were on the same train home.

He’s handsome, but he drank and cursed too much

He completely failed to “read the room” in a fancy restaurant. It would have been good to see him a little less wild!

Embarrassing moments?

Every other word was a swear word and he kept making jokes with the waiters, which they didn’t seem to be used to. Cursing doesn’t bother me, but it was horrifying in that setting.

However, I wasn’t sure if it was just his personality, so I didn’t say anything in case I offended him.

DID SPARKS FLY?

It was a fun date with easy conversation and lots of laughter, but there was no spark in a romantic sense. It’s hard to explain why; we just didn’t click that way. It probably didn’t help that he fell asleep on my shoulder on the train home.

Alisha wasn't impressed by Ryan's swearing, but she enjoyed the date with free-flowing conversation and lots of laughter

DO YOU WANT TO MEET AGAIN?

Not in a romantic way, but he’s a real character and so much fun. That said, we exchanged contact information, but we haven’t messaged since, so I don’t think a meeting is on the cards.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?

He said complimentary things during the date, like that I looked beautiful and that we would meet again.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE TO KEEP HIM?

I think they would see that he is a friendly guy, but a little too outgoing for me.

FIRST IMPRESSION?

When she came in, I thought she looked pretty and naturally beautiful. She was warm and approachable, with a big smile. I’m charismatic and energetic and I hoped she would be too.

EASY TO TALK TO?

The conversation was lighthearted, but we had serious moments talking about what it was like growing up – what things used to be like before cell phones.

I entertained her with funny stories about growing up in the North. Amazingly, we both went to the same university in Northampton. I like to have a few beers when I’m out, so I was in a good mood. But she gave as good as she got in the banter department.

Falling asleep on her shoulder was quite embarrassing

Embarrassing moments?

Falling asleep with her on the way home was pretty embarrassing, but you have to laugh at these things.

DO SPARKS FLY?

I’m naturally flirty, but I bounce off the other person’s energy and when I didn’t feel Alisha flirting, I held back. We took the same train home and talked the whole way, except when I fell asleep. I walked her to her car and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

I later found her on Instagram and she followed me back, so it couldn’t have been a complete disaster.

DO YOU WANT TO MEET HER AGAIN?

Yes, but probably not in a romantic capacity, although I would be interested to see if there was any flirting on a second date.

I complimented her on her looks because she is easy on the eyes. I wasn’t too disappointed that she didn’t answer because we got along so well.

Although Ryan would like to meet Alisha again, he doesn't think it would be in a romantic capacity. That said, he would be curious if there was any flirting on a second date

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

Hopefully she thought I was a nice guy, outgoing and funny. I’ve been on dates where the conversation fell flat, but Alisha and I talked all night.

Would your family like her?

She would fit in 100 percent. We have the same interests. She has a book club and I like to read. She doesn’t drink much though and I like a beer!
