Sarah Ferguson looked elegant last night as she attended a dinner for a cancer charity in San Francisco.

The Duchess of York, 64, was stylish in a black long-sleeved maxi dress with a tiered skirt at the V Foundation’s ‘Dinner with the Duchess’ gala.

Her gown had a vibrant print with flowers and butterflies in bright shades including red, yellow, pink, blue and green.

Meanwhile, she styled her signature auburn locks in a half up, half down cowl so that her locks were pulled away from her face, leaving the statement dangling earrings clearly visible but still falling past her shoulders.

Looking fresh-faced, Sarah wore an elegant cosmetic look that paired her clear skin tone with natural peach blush and a pink lip.

The focal point of her makeup was her blue eyes, which she accentuated with a smokey eyeshadow look using terracotta shades.

The Duchess completed her look with jewelery and paired emerald gemstones in her earrings with a matching ring and bracelet with green stones.

Sarah revealed in June that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had a successful one-off mastectomy at King Edward VII’s Hospital in London.

She has since spent time recovering at home at Royal Lodge, Windsor, where she lives with her ex-husband despite splitting almost three decades ago.

The Duchess’s cancer nightmare began earlier this year when a routine pre-coronation test first revealed something was seriously wrong.

In early May, Sarah went to an appointment in London for a mammogram. Instead of the technician getting the all-clear as expected, he explained that a “shadow” could be seen in the chest.

Given the size of the area, a lumpectomy was ruled out and Sarah was strongly advised to proceed with a single mastectomy, which would eradicate the shadow of cancer cells over the breast.

Sarah was said to be devastated but was determined to go ahead with a mastectomy as soon as possible, telling friends she had ‘no choice’ but to go ahead with the operation.

The Duchess underwent a major eight-hour operation as surgeons battled breast cancer. Speaking about the grueling operation during her final episode of the first series of her podcast Tea Talks in August, she revealed that her mastectomy had helped her overcome ‘years’ of self-loathing over being compared to Princess Diana.

She said that, looking back, she realizes she had “good legs” and “looked good” but “didn’t like herself.”

“That was because I think I was always compared to Diana and I think I ended up believing my own press, which, you know, isn’t that good,” Fergie explained.

However, she said she found life after the surgery changed her point of view, adding that she now “likes herself.”

She also shared how she has recovered since the surgery and said she is doing well.

She said she had started returning to a more active lifestyle over the summer, including walking while on holiday in Scotland to keep fit.
