Footy fans stunned as Bulldogs superstar Marcus Bontempelli rises from his sick bed to kick one of the most insane goals you will ever see

  • Schipper was sick all week
  • Missed training and was unsure before the clash
  • Came out and gave a masterclass

Inspirational Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Montempelli was unstoppable as he overcame illness to score one of the sharpest goals under pressure you will see in AFL footy.

Coach Luke Beveridge had backed skipper Marcus Bontempelli to overcome illness and lead the way in the Western Bulldogs’ clash with Fremantle after the 28-year-old missed the entire week of training.

“He’s been sick,” Beveridge said Friday.

‘A few weeks ago he was a crook too. That was actually before the Collingwood game, and he came out and played an extremely influential game.

‘He did not train with the group this week. He comes in today – it’s quite an early game tomorrow so we’ll hardly be doing anything during our captain’s run.

“He has had a different preparation, and as you know and understand, it will take something quite significant to stop him from playing.

“Hopefully it doesn’t bother him too much.”

As well as being unaffected, the Bulldogs star was inspiring as he scored 15 disposals, two goals and eight goals before half-time.

That included his crazy second goal, where he beat three defenders and scored a major, leaving some of the match’s biggest players stunned.

“Certainly not,” said Brisbane Lions champion Jonathan Brown.

Bontempelli set up the step, spun his around all three defenders and fired home to give the Bulldogs a healthy halftime lead.

‘How good is De Bont? He’s the best, of the best, of the best.’

Garry Lyon was also shocked in the comments.

‘Not only did he have three to beat, one of them was the captain in Alex Pearce and he’s as good as any defender, you’ve got Luke Ryan there joining in and [Karl] Worner comes in, look, three [defenders]he said in his commentary.

“Not enough, you need the whole team there,” Brown replied.

“That’s incredible,” Lyon continued.

‘To first halve the game, then refuse the ground ball and then score a goal.

‘I immediately know that after this we will celebrate another modern great in Dusty [Martin].

“But for now, just enjoy the fact that you’re watching one of his peers do his job at the highest level.”

Fans were quick to praise Bontempelli on social media as well.

“I don’t care what anyone says, Marcus Bontempelli is the best Bulldog ever,” one person wrote.

‘Marcus Bontempelli is just a freak!!! How lucky are @westernbulldogs to have such a player leading their team,” another added.

;Wow. Bontempelli. Simply incredible. He may be an opposing player, but you can’t help but admire him,” said another.
