  • Leg-spinner Adam Zampa snapped 4/12 from four overs
  • Rolled minnows for 72, won by nine wickets

Australia have qualified for the last eight of the Twenty20 World Cup after a comprehensive nine-wicket defeat to Namibia in Antigua.

After winning the toss and bowling, Adam Zampa (4-12) was again the star as Mitch Marsh’s men bowled Namibia for just 72 runs.

It was the lowest total ever achieved by a team in a T20 international against Australia.

In response, Travis Head (34 not out) top-scored with the bat to ensure Australia reached Namibia’s total in just the sixth over.

Skipper Marsh (18 not out) hit the winning runs for four deep extra cover.

Zampa admitted he had ‘bowled a few pies’, resulting in wickets – but ominous news for their rivals: he believes the Aussies will only improve as the tournament deepens.

“The ball is coming out well,” he said.

“I’m just trying to do my thing…with the crosswind here [in Antigua]you must prepare well for the circumstances.

‘There is still a long way to go, this is the first step for us as a group.’

Following his four-wicket haul, Zampa became the first Australian men’s player to snare 100 wickets at T20 level.

He also bowled 17 dot balls at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in a stunning display of leg-spin bowling.

Australia are now guaranteed to finish in the top two of Group B, meaning they will play in the Super 8 stage of the tournament regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s final group match against Scotland.

If they finish in the top two in their Super 8 group, the 2021 champions will progress to the knockout semi-finals.
