Gary Jubelin, controversial ex-cop turned I Catch Killers podcaster, apologises to a former lover for ‘unforgivable’ act during sex

  • Podcaster apologized for ‘unforgivable’ sexual act
  • Gary Jubelin’s ex-lover said he would answer the phone
  • But fellow police officer Pam Young says he was a “very passionate lover.”

Former top cop Gary Jubelin has apologized to an ex-lover for an “unforgivable” act during sex – answering his phone during fits of rage.

Mr. Jubelin conducted a remarkably candid interview this week with his ex-girlfriend, former homicide detective Pam Young, during an “I Catch Killers” podcast discussion.

The detective – who was famously removed from the investigation into William Tyrrell’s disappearance in 2019 – asked Ms Young to list the best and worst parts of living with him.

Ms Young, who has worked on murder cases including the alleged homophobia death of US math student Scott Johnson, responded that he was “a very passionate and generous lover”.

Jubelin replied: ‘I didn’t expect that, but thank you.’

Although Young describes Jubelin as a passionate lover, she complained that he always answered phone calls from informants or others during their sexual encounters.

She continued: ‘The great thing was that you could also clean well, so that combination was perfect.’

Jubelin interjected, ‘what were the problems (with) living with (me)?’

Young responded, “Definitely the fact that every time we had sex your phone would ring.

‘You understand that, busy businesses and on-call services and all that. But it was the fact that you answered, Jubelin.

“That is inexcusable and disrespectful and very disappointing.”

With a grin from ear to ear, Jubelin replied: ‘They were important calls. Half the time they were informants,” Young interjected, “while the other activity wasn’t, thank you!”

Jubelin replied: ‘Ah sh*t, I’m digging myself in a hole. Anyway, I’m sorry, Pam, I publicly said I apologize for answering the phone during sex.”

Mr Jubelin has become a podcaster and journalist since leaving the NSW Police Force.

After leaving his job as boss of Task Force Rosann – which has not yet charged anyone over the kidnapping or suspected death of William Tyrrell – Mr Jubelin himself was charged.

In 2020, Mr Jubelin was found guilty of illegally recording four conversations with a potential witness of William Tyrrell and fined $10,000. He failed to win an appeal against the convictions.

William Tyrrell disappeared from Kendall on the NSW Mid North Coast on September 12, 2014 and has never been seen since, nor have his remains been located.

Ms Young, a former detective chief inspector, controversially claimed that Scott Johnson’s death in December 1988 could have been a suicide.

The 27-year-old’s body was found at the foot of a cliff at North Head, a well-known gay beat on Sydney’s northern beaches.

In 2020, Scott Phillip White was arrested and later pleaded guilty to manslaughter, accepting legal responsibility for Mr Johnson’s murder.

He later withdrew his guilty plea, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and will be eligible for parole in 2026.
