Gen Z calls vanilla ice cream and olive oil a 'divine combination' and it's even getting celebrity support – so, should YOU try it?

Olive oil is traditionally drizzled over salads, served with fresh bread or poured over pasta, but millennials and Generation Z foodies are changing the tradition.

Instead of topping their ice cream with chocolate sauce and sprinkles, they now dip their dessert in olive oil and call it a “divine combination.”

The combination may sound niche, but with thousands of views on TikTok – not to mention celebrity endorsements – the trend is quickly gaining momentum, meaning it could soon pop up at your local gelateria.

The olive oil and ice cream combination can also be topped with additional toppings, including honey and sea salt, further blurring the line between sweet and savory.

And even pop icon Dua Lipa has given the strange combination her approval.

Speaking to Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ Greg James, the English Albanian pop star, 28, said she likes both chocolate ice cream and Italian gelato, before revealing: 'I get vanilla ice cream and I put olive oil on it , and sea salt.'

And she's on her way to turning the unusual topping into a cult product, saying: “So many people I've shown it to, I've turned to the dark side.”

Like most things the Houdini singer does, millions of people have already done it, and many have taken to TikTok to document their reactions as they tried the unique combination.

A food-based content creator, GG, from Britain, took to the platform to share her thoughts on vanilla ice cream with sea salt flakes.

She said: 'It's definitely not bad… it gives a plain vanilla ice cream that little bit extra.'

But GG concluded that the combination was too high in calories to continue eating.

Elsewhere, a West Yorkshire user who goes by the name @whitworthssugar on TikTok took to the platform to try out the dessert after Dua Lipa mentioned it on the radio.

After she combined the ingredients and tried the food, it's safe to say she looked impressed.

She said: 'Dua Lipa was on BBC Radio 1 yesterday and shared her favorite ice cream flavour: vanilla, olive oil and sea salt. So we had to try it and omg it's delicious! A must try.'
