Grammy Award-winning artist James Bay has opened up about his career and the impact of traveling for his work.

The ‘Hold Back the River’ hitmaker, 33, openly discussed the toll of leaving his two-year-old daughter with The Daily Telegraph.

“I’m very aware that I’m disappearing for a living… disappearing from the life of a child that I brought into the world and wants to be here and that wants me there,” the English hitmaker said .

‘That’s a big thing. It’s very difficult to navigate.”

The singer and his wife Lucy Smith welcomed their daughter Ada Violet in October 2021.

Known for global chart hits Let It Go and Hold Back The River, the 33-year-old also revealed that despite the desire for a successful song, he doesn’t ‘chase’ hits.

‘Chasing for a goal is extremely unhealthy. That affects social media and the state of mental health in relation to social media,” he admitted.

The singer is currently in Australia headlining the SummerSalt Festival and shared with the publication that a fourth album is on the way.

Bay will be performing a new song called Hope from the album for the first time at his Australian shows.

He married Lucy in August 2022, 10 months after welcoming Ada.

The couple had been together for 15 years and James previously credited Lucy with letting him pursue a career in music.

“I'm very aware that I'm disappearing for a living… disappearing from the life of a child that I brought into the world and that I want to be here and that wants me around,” he said.

In 2020 he said The sun, ‘She’s the coolest person in the world. Before we were in a relationship, we were good friends.

‘We used to be watching TV on a Wednesday evening and she would say, ‘Wait a minute, if you want to be a big artist one day, you should definitely go to a pub or club and play some ‘current songs’.

“She instilled that in me, and I got out and did it. Without her I wouldn’t be here.’
