Helensvale M1 Pacific Motorway crash: Two kids among four injured in horror smash between police car and a ute
Two children, along with a man and a woman in their 50s, have been rushed to hospital after a horrific crash on a major highway.
Emergency services rushed to the M1 Pacific highway at Helensvale on the north side of Queensland’s Gold Coast after a car collided with the back of a police car at 1.20pm on Friday.
The accident happened near exit 62 and members of the police, ambulance and fire brigade quickly arrived on the scene to help the four injured people escape.
Four people, including two children under the age of 10, have been rushed to hospital in serious conditions after a serious crash on the M1 Pacific highway in Helensvale, Queensland.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said four people were in serious but stable condition and were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.
The injured included a girl under the age of five with facial injuries, a girl under the age of 10 with a leg laceration and two people in their 50s, including a man with chest and abdominal injuries and a woman with leg injuries.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said the police car was traveling along the M1 before it was struck by the car.
They were not pursuing anyone at the time, the spokesperson confirmed.
Photos of the car show that the entire rear end was crushed into the vehicle’s cabin.
Two southbound lanes remain close to the crash site and heavy traffic is now reaching Dreamworld as the wreckage is cleared.
The police have urged all motorists to avoid the area for the time being.
“Motorists traveling south are urged to avoid the area or expect major delays,” the spokesperson said.
