Dramatic moment have-a-go hero customer tries to stop two ‘shoplifters’ stealing champagne from Sainsbury’s

A heroic shopper fended off two suspected thugs who allegedly stole champagne from a Sainsbury’s in the south London.

One of the men – wearing a cap and face mask – had a bottle of fizz tucked into his jacket, while the other had two bottles in his hands and a green bag slung over his shoulder.

The Police met are now investigating the incident, with support from the supermarket, but no arrests have been made at this stage.

The brave customer stood up to prevent the alleged thieves from leaving with the fancy drink.

The heroic bystander – believed to be wearing a blue Chelsea football kit – shouted at one of the men: ‘Put him back. Now put it back. Put it back.’

Then he addressed them both and said, ‘Go on, I will do you both. Put it back. Go ahead, put it back, you thieving bastard.”

One of the men replied: ‘It has nothing to do with you. We are homeless.”

But the angry customer continued: ‘Go ahead, I don’t care***. Put it back, put it back, you damn bastard, I don’t care.”

One of the men replied, “We have nowhere to live.”

Another shopper filmed just over 30 seconds of the ugly collision on his cell phone, as reported on NeedToKnow.

A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘On Tuesday, June 4, police were called to a shop premises on Stanley Park Road, Carshalton, at around 4pm following reports of shoplifting.

‘Officers are currently investigating the circumstances and at this early stage there have been no arrests.’

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: ‘We support their investigation.’
