Homeland costars Claire Danes and Rupert Friend attended the same event in New York City on Tuesday night.

They were seen at the special screening of Sophie's Choice to celebrate the film's 40th anniversary, with the film's stars Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline in attendance.

Claire, 44, arrived alone and Rupert, 42, was with his athlete wife Aimee Mullins, 48.

The actors played work partners and love interests on the hit spy series – she was bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison, and he was CIA agent and assassin Peter Quinn.

Their characters had intense chemistry, but all that heat resulted in just a single passionate kiss.

The critically acclaimed show aired from 2011 to 2020.

Claire looked conservative in a black satin suit with an ivory top underneath. She was holding a black handbag and wearing high heels.

The My So-Called Life veteran added a chunky gold chain with dainty earrings, as well as dark crimson lipstick.

Rupert – who used to date Kiera Knightley – also wore a black suit.

His wife, Aimee — an athlete who was born with a medical condition that resulted in the amputation of both her legs below the knee — stood out in a blood-red double-breasted suit and black sneakers.

Danes started playing bipolar CIA agent Carrie in 2011. The eighth and final season of Homeland aired in 2020.

That same year the Danes looked to the future.

Danes told it The Hollywood Reportershe wasn't sure what the next step was: “I don't know where to start, but I should play someone who is definitely healthy.”

On a personal note, Claire explained, “I want this final season to be released to the world before it really ends for me, and then I'm sure I'll emerge in the end.”

She eventually starred in Fleishman Is in Trouble and then Full Circle.

Her plan to find “someone with common sense” references Carrie's bipolar disorder, which has remained an intense wild card in the series' plot throughout the seasons.

Thinking back to the beginning of the award-winning Showtime thriller, which became an instant smash success thanks to brilliant reviews and viral word of mouth, the My-So-Called Life star says it all took her a bit by surprise.

“Three episodes later, people were literally walking out of the stores, which charged me with enthusiasm,” she recalls.

'I had never experienced that before. My so-called life had an amazingly rich afterlife, but there wasn't that appreciation when it aired.

“There were parodies on Saturday Night Live and in MAD Magazine. That's a real sign that you've made it, getting roasted. A pornographic film was made about us.'

In addition to MSCL, Danes had of course particularly enjoyed performances in films such as Romeo + Juliet, The Family Stone and Stardust before returning to television in the masterful 2010 HBO film Temple Grandin.

That role earned Danes both a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy, and it was a sign of things to come: Over the next two years, she won both trophies a second and third time for her performance in Homeland.

Claire is married to Emmy-nominated actor Hugh Dancy, who has appeared in projects such as Hannibal, Elizabeth I and The Big C. She and her husband have three children.

Dancy also had a role in Homeland.
