Gruesome new footage shows the gruesome moment 10-year-old Maryland boy is dragged from Bahamas resort's shark tank as the bloodthirsty beasts circle as he bleeds from his leg

New footage has emerged showing the moments after a 10-year-old boy was bitten on the leg by a shark while swimming in a tank at a resort in the Bahamas.

The video shows the aftermath of the incident which took place while the youngster was participating in an event at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort on January 15.

Concerned onlookers can be heard talking about what happened in the tank as the water in the bend begins to turn red from the blood.

As the boy tries to fight his way to safety, sharks can be seen circling the tank in a frenzy.

Blue Adventures of Stuart Cove, the group that runs the shark diving program for the resort, said the guest was in the water with a “dive instructor and dive guide.”

The boy was immediately taken to a hospital and was in serious but stable condition. He was transferred from the hospital to Maryland for further care on January 17.

A source said TMZ that the boy climbed into the tank with an attendant as part of the hotel's shark experience.

The boy made his way to the bottom of the tank with the handler, while also wearing a large white helmet and a heavy oxygen tank.

Two reef sharks began swimming aggressively around him before one of them shot through his legs.

The outlet reported that this caused the young boy to lose his balance and straddle the shark, which retaliated by sinking its teeth into his leg.

Other footage also emerged showing staff and a woman in a corner of the tank while a man shouted as the incident occurred.

The boy is then seen being pulled out of the water by staff, with the woman recording the video saying: “He got bit, he got bit by a shark, mom.”

You can also hear a woman crying and wailing hysterically in the background while another man asks for help.

In a statement, organizers said: “We have begun a thorough internal investigation and are fully cooperating with the authorities.

“These types of incidents involving interactions with marine life, even the shark species involved in this experience, are rare and never acceptable.”

The 'thrilling' expedition is part of the Mayan temple area of ​​the resort's Aquaventure Zone.

Guests must wear special helmets to breathe underwater so they can get up close to nurse and reef sharks.
