Horror as body is found on highway in NSW, near Queensland border

The lifeless body of a man has been found on a major highway in NSW, near the Queensland border.

The body was found about 5.30am on Monday on the M1 Pacific Motorway near Tweed Valley Way in Chinderah, about 10km south of Coolangatta in Queensland.

“The man has yet to be formally identified,” NSW Police said.

All southbound lanes of the M1 Pacific Motorway are closed and motorists must divert via Tweed Valley Way.

“Please allow additional travel time in the area,” LiveTraffic NSW said.

A crime scene was established and an investigation launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Police cannot confirm whether the man was hit by a vehicle.

A crashed motorcycle was found near the body, but police are still investigating to see if there is anything similar between the bike and the man.

However, a NSW Police spokesperson said a motorcycle had been found near the body, but police were still working to see if there was a link between the two.

A report will also be prepared for the coroner.
