How Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds made their marriage work
Blake Lively clearly had a blast at Super Bowl LVIII as she enthusiastically cheered on the Kansas City Chiefs with her best friend Taylor Swift at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11. Lively's husband, Ryan Reynoldswasn't present, but he was part of the action from a distance when he posted a photo of himself next to a fireplace and a TV screen showing a Deadpool ad with the caption: 'Has everyone seen the trailer for #Deadpool? Has anyone seen my wife? on Instagram. Not to be outdone, Lively soon posted a photo of herself in the same spot, cheekily writing, “Honey, I'm home. My day was good. Yours?”
Lively, 36, and Reynolds, 47, have lovingly trolled each other on social media for years. It's one of the many ways the couple — who married in 2012 and welcomed their fourth child in early 2023 (they also share daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, and Betty, 4) — stay connected. “Blake and Ryan have a very light-hearted vibe,” says a source. “They are soulmates and we just click.”
At home in the idyllic town of Pound Ridge, New York, they are all about family and prefer to raise their children away from the glare of Hollywood. “They love their lives there,” said a second source Us. “They don't have much help in terms of nannies. They are both very devoted parents.”
When they're not working, Reynolds and Lively like to keep it quiet. “Blake and Ryan both love to cook, and they enjoy watching cooking shows together,” says the second source, noting that the couple – who first met while filming 2011 Green Lantern – also enjoy a few guilty-pleasure reality shows. The Gossip Girl alum is a great baker, adds the source, and often makes treats for the kids to take to school for classmates.
As a family they spend a lot of time outdoors. “They go on picnics and walks and hang out in local parks and kick a football around,” the first source said. “Staying healthy and active has always been a priority for them.”
Lively has been open about keeping the kids grounded. “We want our children to live the same normal lives that we do,” she said in 2016. “We never want to rob them of what we had because that would make us feel really selfish.”
They are on the same page when it comes to parenting. “Blake and Ryan both fully agreed from the start that they would put their children above all else; that's why they didn't want to depend on nannies,” says the first source. “It turned out beautifully and they are proud that they prioritized family.”

The second source says they often have friends over for dinner. “Blake and Ryan have a close group of friends, including Taylor, who they enjoy hanging out with,” the source said. 'They play music and have dance parties. Their children will also participate.” Adds the first source: “Blake and Ryan have always been hyper-focused on privacy, but that doesn't mean they only hang out at home. They also love to eat out in NYC.”

The couple was recently spotted in the Big Apple, chatting over coffee in the Tribeca neighborhood, where they own a luxury condo, and hanging out with celebrity friends like Hugh Jackman. “They also enjoy romantic weekend getaways upstate,” the source said. “Friends will help and care for the children so they can get that precious quality time.”

“Blake is hitting her stride again with this new movie — she also has other projects in the works — and Ryan has never been busier,” says the first source. But they made a rule to try not to film at the same time. “They time their absences to perfection, so one of them is almost always present with the kids,” the source explains. “It's amazing how they pull it off.” The second source agrees that they “have a great system in place. They try to keep everything 50-50.”

Reynolds loves to spoil Lively with sweet gestures. “His career can be super demanding, but he always puts Blake and the kids first,” the first source said. “He is kind and thoughtful and will surprise Blake with gifts when she least expects them, and she in turn is everything he could have dreamed of as a partner and mother to his children.”
