How I snuck into Wembley and rubbed shoulders with Kaka, Naomi Campbell and Oleksandr Usyk: Serial blagger, 33, reveals how he was able to evade security and enjoy five-star treatment at the Champions League Final

A blagger told how he snuck in Champions League final at Wembley and ended up meeting a host of VIPs, including a supermodel Naomi Campbell and heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Steve Carruthers managed to evade an FA ‘ring of steel’ security operation and fight his way to the final, where he watched Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund.

The 33-year-old – who has sneaked into countless sporting events and even Hollywood BAFTA party – could enjoy five-star treatment in the VIP section of the stadium.

Despite not having a ticket for the final, Steve traveled in from his home HullEast Yorkshire, with his four-year-old son, hoping to talk his way in.

Dressed in a suit and tie, Steve said he simply followed a real ticket holder into Club Wembley – the area reserved for VIPs who can be entertained in a private box overlooking the pitch.

Once inside he saw supermodel Campbell, world heavyweight champion Usyk and Ukrainian football legend Andriy Shevchenko.

He enjoyed a champagne buffet before taking his seat in the stadium among the Dortmund fans.

Steve said: “I’ve done this so many times before I thought I’d give it a go and try the Champions League final. My partner was away, so I had to take my son Jacob with me. ‘When we got to the stadium I followed someone with a ticket as they went into Club Wembley. It helped that I was wearing a suit and Jacob was with me.

‘No one stopped me or asked if I had a ticket. It was very simple and I thought I was going to be stopped, but no one said anything.

‘I made my way to the VIP area and just sat down to enjoy a meal and a drink.

‘Everyone else seemed to have a lanyard around their neck, but I wasn’t challenged once. I could go wherever I wanted. In the corridor past company boxes, Steve saw Newcastle owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghoudoussi, Juventus manager Massimilano Aleggri and former world player of the year Kaka. After enjoying the lavish spread laid out for the VIPs, Steve made his way to the ground and took his place among the Dortmund fans.

When the real ticket holder showed up to claim his seat, Steve simply moved to the next empty seat.

He said: ‘It was planned to sell out but there are always some places available. No one asked to see my ticket and my son and I enjoyed the game.

‘To get the kind of access I got it would cost about £10,000. It was a great night. I’ve done this many times, but this is my last time, and what a way to go out.’

This isn’t the first time Steve has made his way into major sporting events. Nine years ago, he posed as part of actor Leonardo Di Caprio’s entourage to get a ringside seat in the ‘fight of the century’ between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

He mingled with a host of Hollywood stars, including Christian Bale, Michael Keaton and Paris Hilton, and also posed with Donald Trump.

When England beat Germany at Wembley in 2020, he used the same trick to follow a genuine ticket holder to gain access to the VIP section where he posed for a selfie with David Beckham and later singer Ed Sheeran.

Four years ago, he donned a black tie to attend a BAFTA party, where he posed for photos with Helen Mirren, Elton John and Quentin Tarantino.

Following the shocking scenes at the 2020 European Championship final between England and Italy, which saw thousands of ticketless fans force their way into the stadium, the FA and police launched a £5 million security operation for last weekend’s final.

Improved ticket checks and an increased number of stewards were introduced, but this did not stop police from arresting 53 people who tried to enter the ground. An FA spokesperson has been contacted for comment.
