Mrs Boyack’s husband, William, was driving behind his wife with his eldest son and witnessed the fatal collision.

In a victim impact statement, William said: “I still constantly have the most horrifying and sickening flashbacks to the collision, which are still paralyzing for me.

“The loss of my wife, Angela, and my son, Stephen, has ruined my life in every sense of the word and meaning.

‘As if losing Angela wasn’t enough, I lost my youngest, beautiful, gentle giant of a son.

“This has completely and utterly destroyed me. He was only 22 years old and had his whole life left to live.”

Hill ran from the scene of the collision, stopped a passing motorist and asked for a lift to Chesterfield, before catching the bus to Sheffield.

He then hid in various buildings in the city for two days before being arrested on December 11, 2023.

Hill, of Wheata Road, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, initially denied the charges before entering a guilty plea on the first day of his trial in May 2024.

Hill was sentenced to 13 years in prison at Derby Crown Court on June 7, 2024, after initially denying the charges.

William said: “There are no words in the English language to describe the disgust and contempt I have for Hill.

‘The fact that he stood there looking at the carnage he had caused didn’t help.

“Hill’s actions that day robbed me of my wife and son and destroyed my life.

“I will never forgive him or forget his actions and the damage he has caused.

“To cause myself, my son, my family and friends so much heartache and uncertainty, knowing his guilt and culpability in the deaths of two people, the fact that he knew he was guilty and refused to acknowledge his actions that caused the deaths of two people. two innocent souls, who then wait almost five months to admit what the evidence clearly shows.

‘The sadness, the stress, the pain and the abandonment are unbearable.

‘Why, why did you do this? That’s what I want to know.’

Detective Inspector Ian Niven, who led the investigation, said: “This was a horrific collision which caused the deaths of two people who were visiting family in the area. The fact that it happened in front of Angela’s husband and son is even more devastating.

“For Hill to then run from the scene as other members of the public rushed to help shows his blatant disregard for anyone else.

“Unfortunately for Angela and Stephen’s family, the consequences of Hill’s actions on that day will stay with them forever as they face the future without their loved ones.

“While nothing can ever bring Angela and Stephen back, I hope knowing that Hill has now been behind bars for some time can bring some comfort to their family.”
