I spend most of my time using an excellent iPhone 16 Pro MaxWhich means that I can live most of my existence with the help of the expertly tailor -made iOS 18 experience. However, sometimes I use it equally fantastic Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultraa flagship telephone that is now running Android 15 And Exu.
In many ways the S25 Ultra is the same as the iPhone; The platforms look and work in more or less similar ways. However, there is an important way in which they differ and, to be honest, I am tired of it.
As you may know, unless you have a Google Pixel -TelefoonIt is unlikely that you will get a pure Android experience. Third -party partners, such as OnePlus, Motorola, and SamsungAdjust their skins for the platform.
For some, that is the beauty of Android: for many people it can be many things, and in the case of Samsung this expresses itself in the form of exuui.
It is a beautiful platform that now offers things like deeply integrated Samsung Galaxy AISamsung Health, and the lively now short widget, which offers information and talkative aphorisms, such as ‘The Day Rolls on’.
Duplication of effort
However, where the experience is less grand, is in duplication. For every app where Google and Android apparently you have covered, thinks, photos, contacts and chromium; Samsung’s exuui has a duplicate. Some, such as internet and contacts, are easy to ignore.
Others, such as “gallery”, are less because they contain core functions such as generative AI image editing. Some, like Sketches to imageWith which you can scribble on a photo to add elements, such as a photo -realistic bird flies or a dog sitting next to you, are fun, if not full of use. But gallery faded compared to Google photos‘Powerful search options. If I have to find an image, I always go there.
There is also Google’s criticism Play shopBut it does not have all Samsung apps you need – that would be the ‘Galaxy Store’.
I learned to live with the majority of this duplication, but recently I came across a little doppeganger -hip that tested my patience.
In the hours for an industry event I received an e -mail on my iPhone with a link to add the invitation to my digital wallet. I clicked on the link and thought it would open Apple Wallets, but I was pushed into a Google login. It was then that I realized that the link was for Google Wallet. Everyone’s Wallet app icon is similar because there is really only one visual metaphor for a wallet: a stacked group of credit cards.
I grabbed the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, opened the e -mail and selected the Google Wallet icon. Then to my surprise I discovered that Google Wallet was not installed in advance. I installed it and then registered with my Google account.
I then used the Global Google search on my S25 Ultra to find the wallet app and I received three results:
- Samsung portion
- Google Pay
- Google -wallet
Note how Samsung’s wallet first appears; That is no coincidence. Someone who does not pay attention can first open that link and then search in vain for the invitation or the flight ticket they have just added.
This would never happen on an iPhone. However, you will receive one tool app, you can certainly add more if you wish. But that should be the standard setting: only -core platform -apps, and not that only match your specific brand.
I understand that Samsung wants to build an ecosystem, but as a member of the Android family it should accept that it will never have that ecosystem. There will always be this duplication problem, unless Samsung stops trying to copy these apps and let Google and Android take the wheel.
After all, do we buy Samsung Galaxyphones for Ineui apps or, ultimately, for that hardware experience, including things such as the cameras and a nice, almost bezel-free screen?
1+1 = too much
I know that Samsung is proud of the taste of AI, but to be honest, I don’t think it can keep track of the OpenAis and Googles of the World. As it looks now, the best pieces of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra AI experience Are from Google (Gemini).
For some, my perspective is the opposite of what they want. They love choice, and the fact that all Android phones are subtle or frustratingly different, she somehow pleasures them. They think that the photos, internet or wallet apps are different on every platform, they think, an exciting plus.
Of course, you keep thinking that. On the other hand, I will dream of the Immen-Update that is Paper-Dun and combines all fundamental and best pieces of Android, while only adding functions would not do Google anything else.
It is ironic that Samsung calls its platform “exuui”, while the experience is actually the combination of two onion that live under one flagship roof. It is still too busy a space, and I would like Samsung to kick a few double tenants.
