IKEA shoppers are shocked after noticing an “absolutely sensational development” on cafe menus.

The Swedish chain is perhaps best known for its meatballs, but also for coffee and pastries, all of which can be ordered in the bistro.

Foodies can even buy marinated salmon plates, salads and croissants, cheesecakes and sweet pies.

But customers have had one bistro item in particular in recent weeks.

The furniture and home goods retailer has unveiled a new double hot dog for foodies keen to change their orders.

The tasty treat was introduced to menus earlier this month and there is even a plant-based version.

Customers can collect the dogs from all Ikea UK branches, with the exception of the order and collection points in Dublin and Aberdeen.

Don't forget that you can find your nearest Ikea branch by using the retailer's store locator on its website.

The double hot dog has 383 calories, while the double plant dog has 244 calories. Both are available for €1.40.

We asked Ikea how much the individual hot dog costs and will update this story when we hear back.

There's no need to rush one of the double dogs as the snacks are added to the menus all the time.

Eagle-eyed shoppers have already started spotting the new dogs in stores and going online to enjoy the additions.

One said: “Absolutely sensational development in the Ikea bistro”, while another said: “What is that? I can't believe no one told me.”

Meanwhile, a third said: “I actually gasped.”

And a fourth said: “I'm craving a double hot dog right now.”

Ikea is not the only retailer or chain that has made changes to its menu in recent weeks and months.

McDonald's added a number of new items to its menus on January 4, much to customer fanfare.

The fast food chain brought back the Steakhouse Stack, Cheesy Garlic Bites and Cadbury Dairy Milk and Caramel McFlurry's.

Fan favorite, the Fajita Chicken wrap, was also reintroduced after its initial launch in January 2020.

However, six menu items will be removed from menus on February 6, just a month after they were added.

Meanwhile, supermarket chain Iceland has exclusively revealed to The Sun that it is launching two new deals ahead of Valentine's Day.

Shoppers can grab a two-for-£10 steak deal from January 30 to February 30, saving a total of £3.

Plus, savvy customers can buy two pizzas and ice cream for just £7, saving £5.

In other news, Ikea has cut prices on more than 1,500 items, with plans to cut prices on a further 1,000 items by spring.
