Diplomatic row between India and Canada: EAM Jaishankar asks Trudeau government to share evidence on Nijjar murder

London: Responding to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations over India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Minister of State for External Affairs (EAM) S Jaishankar sought evidence to support the key claims. During a conversation with journalist Lionel Barber on Wednesday, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of credible evidence. When asked if there was any evidence of Indian government involvement in the killing, the EAM categorically replied: “None.”

The EAM revealed that he has discussed the matter with his Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly, asking the Canadian government to share whatever evidence it has. He also emphasized India’s willingness to consider an investigation, but stressed that no evidence has been provided by the Canadian government so far.

“In the case of Mr. Trudeau, I also discussed it with my own colleague. And we told them, look, if you have a reason to make such an accusation, please share the evidence with us. We do not rule out an investigation and look at what they may have to offer. They didn’t do that,” Jaishankar said.
