Amid the escalating violence in Myanmar, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has advised Indian nationals living in the country to register with the Indian Embassy in Yangon. This advisory comes after MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi expressed concern over the ongoing armed conflict between the Myanmar Army and anti-junta groups near the Indo-Myanmar border. Bagchi stressed the need for a peaceful solution to the crisis through constructive dialogue.

Indian nationals living in Myanmar are encouraged to register with the embassy to ensure their safety and well-being in light of the deteriorating security situation.

“We are deeply concerned about such incidents close to our border. Our position on the current situation in Myanmar is very clear. We want separation from the violence and the situation of restitution, or a resolution of the situation through constructive dialogue. We reiterate our call for the return of peace, stability and democracy in Myanmar,” Bagchi said.

A number of Myanmar nationals have fled their country following the recent airstrike by the Myanmar military in the country’s bordering areas. According to the United Nations, more than 26,000 people from Myanmar’s Rakhine State have been displaced since Monday following renewed fighting between the Myanmar Armed Forces (MAF) and the Arakan Army (AA).

According to Reuters, Myanmar’s military junta is facing its biggest test since taking power in a coup in 2021 after three ethnic minority forces launched a coordinated offensive in late October, capturing some towns and military posts.

Last week, the military-installed president said Myanmar was at risk of “falling apart” due to an ineffective response to the uprising. According to Reuters, the new battle will be a fresh blow to the junta, which is under increasing pressure amid growing armed opposition fueled by anger over the coup and crackdown.
