Israel-Hamas LIVE: Netanyahu vows Israel will take control of Gaza’s ‘general security’ as Hamas leader brazenly refuses to acknowledge civilians killed in last month’s terror attack

The United Nations Security Council again failed last night to agree on a resolution on the war between Israel and Hamas.

Despite more than two hours behind closed doors, disagreements were held.

The US is calling for ‘humanitarian pauses’, while many council members are demanding a ‘humanitarian ceasefire’ to deliver desperately needed aid and prevent more civilian deaths in Gaza.

“We’ve talked about humanitarian pauses and we’re interested in language in that area,” U.S. Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood told reporters after the meeting. “But there are differences of opinion within the council about whether that is acceptable.”

Secretary General Antonio Guterres told reporters earlier Monday that he wanted an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the “spiral of escalation” already taking place from the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria to Iraq and Yemen.

Guterres said international humanitarian law, which requires the protection of civilians and the infrastructure essential to their lives, is in clear violation and stressed that “no party to an armed conflict is above” these laws.

He called for the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages taken by Hamas from Israel to Gaza during the October 7 attack.

China, which holds the presidency of the Security Council this month, and the United Arab Emirates, the Arab representative on the council, convened Monday’s meeting because of the “crisis of humanity” in Gaza.
