NOTTINGHAM FOREST have failed to bring Jack Butland back to the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo called the nine-cap former England goalkeeper the perfect answer to his goalkeeping woes.

However, Rangers quickly rejected Forest's approach.

And they made it clear that Butland is not for sale.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been excellent since joining Rangers on a free transfer from Crystal Palace this summer.

Since then he has become a firm favorite with Gers fans who hate to lose their popular number 1.

Butland, who spent last season on loan at Manchester United, has kept 18 clean sheets in 36 games for Rangers this season.

His sensational form has made him a top contender for Gareth Southgate's England squad for the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium next month.

It also attracted Forest, who remain unconvinced by their current 'keeper's US international Matt Turner and Greek international Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Turner did not help his cause by making a shocking blunder in the 2-1 defeat at home to Arsenal.

The American slipped the ball between his legs as Gabriel Jesus put the Gunners ahead.

But Santo appears to be disappointed in his pursuit of Butland.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has issued a clear hands-off warning and made it clear that Forest are wasting their time bidding for their star performer.

Clement's side are second in the Scottish Premier League, five points behind Celtic with a game in hand.
