Whatever happened to The Janoskians? Social media superstars went from dating Hollywood A-listers to working in a ‘cat food factory’

In the 2010s, The Janoskians were Australia’s favourite YouTube stars, boasting 2.6million followers on the video-sharing platform.

Elder brother Beau Brooks, twins Luke and Jai Brooks, and friends Daniel Sahyounie and James Yammouni formed the comedy group in 2011 and rose to fame on social media with their gross-out humour and prank videos.

The group, who hailed from Melbourne, came up with the name by creating an acronym for ‘Just Another Name of Silly Kids in Another Nation’.

In addition to having their own MTV series and Netflix movie, the boys also toured as a band and at one point sold out London’s Wembley Arena.

However, their popularity eventually declined and the group stopped updating their main channel in 2018, before confirming in 2020 The Janoskians had broken up.

Making names for themselves globally, the boys appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and even dated Hollywood A-listers. 

So, whatever happened to the Janoskians? Here’s what the members are up to now. 

Beau Brooks

Following the group’s split, frontman Beau Brooks embarked on a solo music career before ditching those dreams to work a ‘9 to 5’ job.

Dubbing himself a ‘washed-up YouTuber’, the 30-year-old now creates TikTok videos about his ‘humbling’ life direction.

He went viral last month about how he made a living packing peanuts.

The former social media star posted a video to TikTok and Instagram which showed him sitting on a bus on his way to work as he reminisced on how he ended up there.

‘I have 1.3 million followers on Twitter, yet I catch the bus to work in a peanut factory packing peanuts for a living,’ Beau captioned the video.

‘Never underestimate the jokes the universe can pull to humble you.’

Days later, he revealed he ‘got fired from the peanut factory’ following the viral video.

He now rides his bike to his new job – making cat food – and runs a clothing line called Look Up.

Despite working a regular day job, Beau continues to regularly post online and film Cameo videos for fans.

Last year, he posted a video of his weight loss journey after shedding an incredible 11.6kg by following a 12-week fitness and diet program.

He said a humiliating interaction with his brothers Luke and Jai, who were once also members of The Janoskians, made him realise he had to take control of his health.

Beau recalled his brothers made fun of him for gaining weight early last year when they caught up with him after several months apart.

‘”How could you just let yourself go?” I hadn’t seen my brothers in five months and the first time they saw me was on FaceTime and they thought I had a filter on,’ he wrote.

‘I was not only embarrassed but ashamed that I had got to the point where I was unrecognisable to my brothers,’ he continued.

‘This was the lowest point of health in my entire life.’

Beau blamed his weight gain on chain-smoking, eating takeaway and drinking alcohol every other day.

‘I had enough and my brothers’ reaction was the straw that broke the camel’s back,’ he wrote.

Beau says he’s been sober for over a year.

Jai Brooks

While Jai Brooks is still active on social media and YouTube, he largely promotes himself as an artist now and sells his paintings on Instagram. 

Jai, now 29, was best known for his brief fling with Ariana Grande. The pair dated back in August 2012 after he posted a Twitter video listing why she should date him.

His bizarre attempt certainly worked, later announcing they were officially dating and already ‘loved’ each other – after months of instant messaging. 

The pair allegedly split in July 2013 after which Ariana started dating Nathan Sykes.

In October that year, Jai claimed Ariana was unfaithful to him and that the pair were still in a relationship when she began seeing The Wanted star.

‘Yes I was cheated on. Yes it does suck. Yes I was left for another man,’ Jai’s lengthy post read.

He went on to say he was ‘a miserable wreck’ and explained: ‘Like anyone who has been cheated on, it has been tough for me but I’m finally ready to move on.’

It wasn’t long before Ariana and Jai rekindled their romance in May, 2014, when they were spotted enjoying a passionate embrace backstage at the iHeartRadio Awards in Los Angeles.

But Ariana again ended things with Jai two months later because he wasn’t there for her during a difficult time.

Nowadays, Jai shows off his incredible artistic skills on his social media pages, while living back in Melbourne after briefly moving to Los Angeles.

Luke Brooks

Luke Brooks, 29, pursued a career in photography after The Janoskians ended, creating Shutter Island Multimedia – a company that does photography and videography for functions and events.

He previously said the Janoskians’ YouTube channel was what sparked his photography and videography career. 

He now has a passion for health and fitness and regularly posts motivational content, as well as documenting his weight loss and muscle gain transformations.

He is currently helping his twin brother Jai with his weight loss journey, sharing videos of his ‘tips and tricks’ for dieting and working out.

Luke is also in a relationship with Emily Arthur, whom he began dating in 2022.

While his days of prank videos are well and truly over, Luke still has a social media presence with 547,000 Instagram followers.

In a nod to the former group, Luke has a Janoskians tattoo of a dog barking, which references their famous quote, ‘Dogs are gonna bark.’

Daniel Sahyounie 

Nicknamed Skip, Daniel Sahyounie’s life today is worlds away from his days as a practical joker.

He tried embarking on a solo YouTube venture but has since taken the videos down.

The 29-year-old was a DJ for a while but seems to have settled into a regular life with his family.

Daniel is now a father, and is engaged to a woman named Maddy Karoglidis.

Daniel popped the question to Maddy in March on the same day as his daughter’s second birthday.

‘What an amazing day with my family and friends…happy 2nd birthday my baby girl I love you so much.. and much love to my new beautiful fiancée,’ he said of the special moment. 

He still has a following of 352,000 on Instagram and, like the Brooks brothers, he recently shared his fitness transformation that saw him lose more than 10kg.

‘My 2023 transformation,’ he wrote in December. ‘Started at 95kg and cut for about six months got down to about 80-81kg.

‘Focused mainly on gaining muscle and mass for the last half of the year,’ he added.

‘This transformation was by far the hardest I have done with so many setbacks, multiple niggles on both shoulders followed by tmj/sinusitis issues. Now weighing in at about 82-83kg.’

James Yammouni 

James Yammouni, 28, was the first member of The Janoskians to depart the group back in 2016.

He continues to make music and collaborates with several artists, including Anfa Rose, Faydee and YouTuber Adam Saleh.

Despite having 331,000 Instagram followers, the singer is rarely active on social media and hasn’t posted since July 2023.
