Jenni Murray: I have been using weight loss Jabs for seven months and I am happy with the results … but that is why they should not be made available more easily

I have been that for seven months Taking the weight loss medicine Mounjaro. I have not had unpleasant side effects and I stopped hearing what is described as ‘food noise’.

So far I have lost the 4th and brought my weight to a more comfortable 12 st. After years of struggling with rarely successful diets, it was a revelation to find the fat so easy.

The only difficult part has been to restaurants for dinner with my friends and having to leave half of my main course on the board, no matter how wonderful. I hate waste, but there is no alternative if you cannot manage a normal part.

I know that without medical help, my body will do its old hunger trick and the kilos will accumulate again. I will never give up Mounjaro, although it reset me a little less than £ 200 a month. I will soon go to the lowest dose (2.5 mg), knowing that it will keep my appetite under control.

In theory, I should therefore be more than happy in the government’s plan to make these fat priks more wider available. At present, only a small number of people can be on the NHS -After consultation with a specialist and in combination with other methods for weight loss. There is a two -year waiting list.

Under new plans, a short, freely available chat with a pharmacist is everything that would be needed to get them for the costs of an NHS recipe (£ 9.90, the standard recipe costs).

It may surprise you to discover that I do not agree with this. I am aware of the temptation – especially at this time of the year – to try to lose weight for the summer vacation. We have seen celebrities who clearly prick themselves to be ‘red carpet ready’. What is to prevent others from screaming for them when they cost less than £ 10?

But these powerful injections should not be used as a shortcut to be ‘ready for beach’ and that is what I fear that they will be available too easily.

They have been developed to cure obesity. The only reason for the health service to eliminate millions in the reduction of obesity is to reduce the costs of the disease to the NHS.

Obesity paralyzes the health service for the melody of more than £ 6 billion every year. There is an increase of almost 40 percent in five years in people under 40 diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the UK. A&E would be burdened by people suffering from the effects of obesity, whether it has the patients who have difficulty breathing, need emergency amputations due to type 2 diabetes or treatment for heart attacks and strokes.

The NHS Obesity Services are unable to meet the demand for the Jabs of weight loss, so even those who are morbid obediently and therefore threaten to die as a result of which their health deteriorates further.

It is wrong that there should be a dual system with those of us who can afford a private recipe and in the meantime others wait without help.

For those whose goal is to use the drugs for the intended goal, I am in favor of the NHS they make available to the chemist. But I can’t approve that they are used by those who try them for vanity.

I say that if someone knows more about obesity than most. I know it is possible for a working mother to rise from 9th 7 pounds to 24th. Admittedly, to eating too much in advance prepared food.

Endless diets never worked because my brain would tell my appetite that I hungry every time I lost a few stones. Above the weight if I started eating again. Surgery at the age of 62 seemed to be the only answer if I didn’t kill myself by being drastically obese.

I had a stomach shell surgery, which removed more than half of my stomach and, in less than a year, lost half of my body weight, settled on a comfortable 12th.

Then Zoryana came, my dear Ukrainian refugee who stayed with me for almost three years. She loved cooking. Her food was great – her creamy mashed potatoes was beautiful, just like her pancakes and packages of meat wrapped in dough. The weight started to crawl up again. By mid -September last year, the scales read 16 pcs. Zoryana had moved, but I found diet as difficult as always.

It was my physiotherapist who came up with a possible solution. Mounjaro, she said, would help with weight loss and tackling inflammation. Maybe it would also help with my pain.

Wegovy and Mounjaro were not approved for recipe on the NHS, except the treatment of type 2 diabetes, which I did not have. I could only acquire it by finding a pharmacy with doctors on board to assess medical history and decide whether it was necessary. I succeeded in their tests and ordered Mounjaro. I inject myself once a week.

The proposed new pharmacy distribution of these medicines must be properly managed. They should only be given to those who have a high BMI and whose weight loss will save their lives and save the NHS that have to do with diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes, heart attacks and even cancer.

We must all remember that these are powerful medicines that must be treated with respect.

Baroness Casey’s work on how to finance it will not flourish for another ten years.

I know I don’t want a care home. Last year I spent time in a very good and very expensive one. I felt that we were all waiting to die.

My neighbor, after three weeks in the hospital at the age of 81, has been assigned daily home care for showering and dressing that will only last three weeks. What then?

I think I just have to continue until I fall.
