Jessica Chastain reveals how her friendship with Taylor Swift began

Taylor Swift seems to have an unlikely friendship with most of Hollywood. Jessica Chastain is the latest A-lister to publicly join the singer’s inner circle, but they’ve actually been friends for years.

“She’s actually really sweet… the best, it’s crazy,” Chastain, 46, said of Swift, 34, during a Friday, December 15, appearance at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I met her at the Met Ball in 2011, and we were both there – it was like, the first year I was invited to the Met Ball. The first year I had movies out and we were both sitting next to each other.

Chastain, who had “just gone through a breakup,” recalled talking to Swift about the breakup.

“We went dancing together. It was such a fun night,” the actress shared. “The next day I got an email from iTunes saying ‘Taylor Swift,’ whatever. I thought it was a Taylor Swift album. She made me a breakup playlist that she sent to me.

Chastain recalled it being “the sweetest thing.”

“I thought it was a Taylor Swift ad,” she continued. “And it was like, wait a minute. And she put together all these breakup songs to send to me to help me through my breakup.

All these years later, Chastain has still kept in touch with Swift. Of course the Memory star saw the Eras tour also.

“I was in Mexico City and she was there on tour [in August]. I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to Taylor’s concert,'” Chastain said, revealing that she brought her assistant to the show, who is “obsessed” with Swift.

This time, Chastain didn’t need a breakup playlist. The actress is married to her husband Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo since 2017.

Swift’s love life has had some ups and downs this year. However, she is currently on a major high.

In April, We weekly confirmed that Swift and Joe Alwyn broke up after six years together. The singer briefly continued with 1975’s The Singer Matty Healey the next month. Us confirmed in June that the casual affair had fizzled out.

In September, sparks flew between Swift and the NFL star Travis Kelce. While their first public appearance came at a Kansas City Chiefs game that month, Swift has since revealed that she and Kelce had kept things low key for a while.

“This all started when Travis adorably confused me on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift shared. TIME earlier this month, referencing July’s “New Heights” podcast episode, in which Kelce hinted he wanted to give the singer his song. Swift confirmed that the two “hanged out right afterward.”
