‘I’m a gay half-Jew, half-Arab fitness guru with a with a black daughter and ‘half-Latin’ son – and even I got out of California because it’s too woke’

Celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels says she moved from California because the move to the left was “crazy” for her.

Michaels moved with her wife DeShanna Marie Minuto in June 2021 and adopted children Lukensia, 14, and Phoenix, 12, from Los Angeles, where she grew up, to Miami.

She previously said the final straw was when her home was broken into by an intruder with “duct tape and a video camera” who was released from jail due to Covid.

Michaels often blames Governor Gavin Newsom for what she doesn’t like about California, and expanded on that theme in Sage Steele’s podcast.

The former reality TV star is the latest in a line of celebrities, including Elon Musk and Sean Hannity, to move from liberal-leaning states like New York and California to Republican-led states like Florida and Texas, which have no state income tax.

Michaels said the liberal state decriminalized crimes like drugs and prostitution, which it largely supported, but then failed to regulate them.

“Some of these laws being passed here are absolutely mind-boggling,” she claimed.

“For example, in terms of crime, protecting our children, we decriminalize everything, which I would probably be fine with, but we don’t regulate any of it.”

Using prostitution as an example, Michaels said she would say “yes, of course” if there were regulations to protect sex workers.

“You’re going to decriminalize sex work, but only so women can hang out on the streets, not to keep them safe, not to make them pay taxes, not to get them regularly checked for STDs, not to take the pimps out of the equation, ‘ she said.

‘I could be a liberal! I could go there with you! I grew up like this!’

Michaels said she felt very liberal in California, but over time the state’s politics shifted to the left and she stayed put.

‘I grew up here. I am a woman. I am a gay woman. My mother is a Jew. My father is an Arab. I have a black child. And believe it or not, my son is half Latin, even if he doesn’t look like it,” she said.

“I have a million cards in your game of Waked Victimology Poker. And if I leave California, you might have gone crazy. Just maybe! Like when you make me run away from home, maybe it’s gone way too far.”

Michaels then returned to a topic she was often critical of: allowing gender changes for minors.

She was quick to point out that she wasn’t anti-trans, she was just critical of children her son’s age being given “off-label” cancer drugs to irreparably alter their bodies.

“If my son came to me and said, ‘Mom’ – or my daughter – ‘I think I’m trans.’ I’d say, okay, if that’s how you want to dress, you want me to call you whatever you want… fine, explore it. I love you,” she said.

“I’m fine with it, so are you, as long as we’re safe, but we won’t change your body until it’s fully developed. I’m sorry. The conversation is over. I can’t get a damn tattoo!’

The health expert last week enthusiastically celebrated the American College of Pediatricians calling on other medical groups to stop promoting puberty blockers, hormone drugs and gender surgery in children.

Michaels regularly goes after Newsom and said even Florida was “less crazy” when he was in charge, blaming his policies for the burglary of her home.

“Guess who released the guy during Covid because I got the letter. Nieuwsom!’ she said on Real Time with Bill Maher in February.

“It was the man’s third offense: he broke into our house, he had duct tape and a video camera. Anyway, long story, third strike, guy goes to jail, gets released during Covid. I mean, give me a fucking break.”

Not long after, she packed up and moved to Miami, emphasizing “I left because of him (Newsom)” — but even that was dramatic.

Michaels called the police on her FlatRate movers and then sued them, claiming they damaged 80 percent of her family’s belongings and lost $30,000 worth of clothing, tools and patio furniture.

She later married fashion designer Minuto in July 2022, after splitting from Rhoades in June 2018. She has 40-60 shared custody of Lukensia and Phoenix with her ex.
