New Delhi: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has announced he will leave the Premier League giants at the end of the current season. The former Borussia Dortmund manager had already informed the club's owners of his decision to step down from his position when the 2023/24 season comes to an end. Liverpool currently top the EPL table with 48 points from 21 matches.

In addition to Klopp, assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as well as elite development coach Vitor Matos, will also leave the club at the end of the season. Klopp stated that he was running out of energy

“I can understand that it's a shock to a lot of people at the moment when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything.

“But the fact that I am still making this decision shows that I am convinced that this is the decision I have to make. It's that, how should I put it, I have no energy left. I don't have a problem with it now, of course I knew for some time that I would have to announce it at some point, but I'm doing absolutely fine now.

I know I can't do the work again and again and again and again. After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect for you grew, the love for you grew and the least I owe you is the truth – and that's the truth,” he added.

Klopp joined the Reds in October 2015 with the aim of establishing Liverpool as one of the strongest forces in European football. Under his leadership, Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup, as well as the FA Community Shield.

With the season still running until May, Liverpool has won many trophies in four competitions. Klopp ensured he would put his best foot forward until his last game in charge.

Previously, Klopp had signed a two-year contract extension in April 2022, which would keep the German at the club until 2026. While the race to find the right candidate to replace Klopp will certainly begin soon, former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is likely to be the frontrunner. Alonso is currently the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
