#JusticeForJEEMains2024Aspirants: Following widespread disappointment and dissatisfaction among JEE aspirants, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an official statement in response. NTA told .” “It was ensured that each team was equally distributed in terms of number of candidates, gender and category,” NTA further added.

The NTA JEE Main Result for Paper 1 (BE/B. Tech.) was announced on February 12, 2024; However, shortly after the JEE Result Declaration, the students claimed that there was a significant difference between the JEE main marks and the percentile predictions. Aspirants started hashtags like “#JusticeForJEEMains2024Aspirants, #NTAHelpJEEStudents2024 #jeemains2024results” on various social media platforms. Engineering aspirants have even tagged the Ministry of Education and National Testing Agency (NTA), the office of the Prime Minister of India, Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the Government of India to express their demands and concerns.

An aspirant shared a post on This year's main results are incorrect. Ask NTA to correct the error. There may not be a difference of 85 points between 2 teams. The 99th percentile is 236 in shift 1 of January 27 and 151 in shift 31 under equal distribution.”

The credibility of the JEE main result is being questioned All India Student's Union (AISU) requested NTA to conduct a thorough investigation to address the concerns of the aspirants. “Many #JEEMains2024 aspirants doubt the credibility of the #JEEMains2024 results due to gaps in marks and percentiles. @NTA_Exams must conduct a thorough review to address concerns and ensure fairness,” the tweet read.

JEE Main 2024 Result: What is the Normalization Process (As per JEE Main 2024 Information Bulletin)

  • NTA may conduct exams on multiple dates, usually in two sittings per day. Candidates are asked different sets of questions per session and it is quite possible that despite all efforts to maintain equivalence between the different question papers, the difficulty level of these question papers is reduced in some way.
different sessions may not be exactly the same. Some candidates may end up making a relative attempt
more difficult set of questions compared to other sets. The candidates who try relatively
more difficult exams are likely to receive lower grades compared to those attempting the easier exam. In
To overcome such a situation, there will be a “normalization procedure based on the percentile score”.
used to ensure that candidates are neither advantaged nor disadvantaged due to the difficulty of the
    inspection.
  • With the aim of ensuring that a candidate's true merits are identified and a level is achieved
In the above context, a playing field is created, the Normalization Procedure described below will be applied for compiling the NTA scores for multi-session papers.
  • The process of Normalization is a well-established practice of comparing candidate scores on multi-session papers and is similar to the practice adopted in other major educational selection tests conducted in India. For normalization across sections, NTA will use the percentile equivalence.

STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURE FOR NORMALIZATION AND PREPARATION OF THE RESULT:

  • Step 1: Division of the exam candidates into two teams: Candidates should be randomly divided into two sessions so that each session contains approximately the same number of candidates. These two sessions are as follows: Session-1: Day-1 Shift-1, Session-2: Day-1 Shift-2 If there are more days or fewer shifts, the candidates will be divided accordingly. . This ensures that there is no bias in the distribution of candidates who will take the exam. Furthermore, the possibility of such bias becomes remote because there is a large population of examinees spread across the country.
  • Step 2: Preparation of Results for Each Session: The exam results for each session are prepared in the form of raw scores, percentile scores of total raw scores. The percentiles are calculated for each candidate in the session as follows: Let TP1 be the percentile score of that candidate's total raw score.
  • Total percentile (TP1): 100
  • Step 3: Compilation of the NTA score and preparation of the result: The percentile scores for the total raw score for all sessions (Session-1: Day-1 Shift-1, Session-2: Day-1 Shift-2) as calculated in step 2 above are aggregated and become the NTA scores which are then used for compiling the results and further processing to determine the allocation. In case the percentiles for the multi-shifts are different/unequal, the lower will be the eligibility cut-off for that category for all candidates (i.e. all shifts). or Example: If in the two-shift exam the 40% marks correspond to a percentile score of 78 in shift 1 and 79 in shift 2, then all scores equal to or higher than 78 percentiles (percentile score from 100 to 78) in both teams are eligible in the general category. For the other categories, a similar method will be applied to determine the criteria for participation. If the exam is taken in multiple shifts, the same principle applies.

The NTA scores for Paper 2A (B.Arch.) and 2B (B.Planning) for the JEE (Main) – 2024 Session 1 will be released in the coming days. After both the sessions of the JEE (Main) – 2024 exam for Paper 1, the ranks of the candidates will be released taking into account the better of the two NTA scores in accordance with the policy already made.
