Kate Middleton’s uncle Gary responds to the discussion about family on Big Brother

Princess Kate Middleton‘s uncle Gary Goldsmith know that he talked a lot about the royal family during his short period Famous big brother.

“To be honest, people asked me about it. They didn’t know what else I was,” Gary, 58, said during his live exit interview on Friday, March 8, per The everyday beast. ‘What are you doing, G? Why are you here if not for that?’ People asked me a lot of questions, especially about that; they didn’t know what else to ask me. I’ve done a lot of it voluntarily. Fair’s fair. Yes, you caught me.”

Gary was one of the contestants on the British game show when it started earlier this month. When Gary entered the house, he made waves for his candid comments about the royal family.

“It hurts when you are constantly referred to [as] being a ‘bad uncle’. I wanted to change that,” he said on Friday about his decision to participate in the competition show. “What an opportunity to peek into the world of celebrity. I’ve tried to be myself and do something royal a little too often. It was interesting to gain insight into their world. In my world that’s me [the] center of attention, but this is another level.”

Gary further admitted that he mentioned his royal connections so often ‘because people kept asking [him]” about Kate, 42, her sister-in-law, Meghan Markleand more.

“Maybe a little too often,” he admitted in his exit interview. “[But,] I had the best time. I went in with one agenda, and I accomplished it in five days. I don’t consider myself a celebrity, I’m just related to someone who is a big celebrity.”

Gary is Kate’s mother’s brother, Carole Middleton. Because of his royal relatives, many of the other Famous big brother cast members wanted to spill the beans on the Princess of Wales’s recent health issues and alleged disappearance from the public. Kensington Palace confirmed in January that Kate, 42, had undergone “planned abdominal surgery” but did not reveal any further details. While Kate recovered at home, many of her scheduled performances were canceled. (Before a March ride with Carole, Kate hadn’t been spotted publicly since December 2023.)

At one point in the season 23 premiere, contestant Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu asked him point blank where Kate was hiding.

“Since she doesn’t want to talk about it, that’s the last thing I’m going to do [talk about it]” said Gary. “There is a kind of code or etiquette. When it’s announced, I’ll give you an opinion. The whole family set up the wagons and [are looking] first after the family, before everything else. They said, ‘It will take some time for her to recover and we will see you at Easter.’
