Kel Mitchell is recovering from a ‘frightening’ health crisis

Nickelodeon alum Kel Mitchell is on the road to recovery after a recent health crisis.

“Grateful for the outpouring of prayers and positive feelings that surrounded me during a truly frightening time,” Mitchell, 45, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, November 8. “The fear was real, but so was the support.”

He continued: “By the grace of God and the skill of the medical team, I am now on the road to recovery at home, embraced by the love of my family. Your kindness has been a lifeline, and I can’t thank you enough. Lots of love to each of you.”

The All of that However, Alum did not reveal the nature of his illness TMZ reported earlier on Wednesday that Mitchell had been admitted to a hospital in Los Angeles.

Mitchell opened up about his health problems on Friday, November 10. Instagram post, noting that he initially felt dehydrated and tried to remedy that by drinking more water.

“When I did that, the whole right side of my arm and my leg went numb, followed by the fact that I couldn’t swallow,” he recalls. “And then I panicked. So I drove myself to the hospital… I panicked, so I wobbled myself to the car.

After Mitchell arrived at the ER, he “failed” several initial tests on his condition and his doctors noticed that his motor skills were “not working.”

“What we feared was not what it was. It was actually a bulging disc that I had from a previous injury that was pressing against a nerve, which mimicked all those symptoms I was going through,” he added. “I thank God I am good!”

Mitchell’s wife, Asia Lee, reposted the initial social media statement on her Instagram Story. She has been married to the comedian since January 2012 and they share daughter Wisdom and son Honor. Mitchell is also father to daughters Allure and Lyric, whom he shares with his ex-wife. Tyisha Hampton.

Mitchell’s famous friends wished a speedy recovery in the comments. Kenan Thompsonfor his part, sent a trio of praying hands emojis.

Mitchell and Thompson have been friends and colleagues since 1994, meeting on the set of Nickelodeon’s All of that. Their comedic skills earned them their own spin-off, titled Kenan & Kelthree years later based on a sketch of the same name.

“We didn’t do that [know each other before All That] and it’s funny how we all met,” Mitchell recalled during a March interview The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I don’t know if they planned this, but they had all the kids come out of the elevator into the lobby one by one. I remember I was already there, and the elevator opened, and this boy came out Ducks gear on and he had the roller skates and everything. … I’m like, ‘I gotta hang out with that kid!’”

He added at the time: “I feel like with me and Kenan, it was just, I said a joke and then he finished it and it felt like we gelled really well.”

The duos Kenan & Kel series lasted four seasons, with the now-classic “Good Burger” sketch inspiring the 1997 film of the same name.

After years of fans clamoring for one Good burger sequel, Thompson, 45, and Mitchell finally announced it was in the works in March. Production started several months later, in May.

Good hamburger 2, which arrives on Paramount+ on November 22, will reunite Thompson and Mitchell’s characters Ed and Dexter. According to the official trailer, the two fast food workers continue their old jokes at the restaurant between shifts.
