Kim Kardashian describes reaction to TikTok clip, daughter North, 10, lip synced to Ice Spice
Kim Kardashian opened up about a parenting decision she made after her daughter North posted a TikTok clip of her lip-syncing with rapper Ice Spice.
The reality star, 42, spoke to Time magazine in a piece published Tuesday about her decision to remove the clip North, 10, posted last March.
“As soon as I saw the words, I was like, ‘Oh no, we’re taking this down,'” she said.
The mother of four — she and ex-husband Kanye West, 46, are also parents to son Saint, seven, daughter Chicago, five, and son Psalm, four — said some users told her West was “right” after he publicly criticized her last year for giving North a TikTok account.
“Maybe he was in that case,” she said, “but she loves making slime videos and doing tutorials on her little hair, and I’ll fight for her to be creative.”

She said that while the clip of North’s lip sync of the Ice Spice collaboration with PinkPantheress Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2 was not appropriate, she feels the social media platform is a positive outlet for the child’s creativity.
After North posted the clip, some users quoted Kanye’s 2022 interview on the Hollywood Unlocked podcast where he said, “My kids won’t be on TikTok without my permission.”
Kardashian in the Time interview opened up about the challenges of raising kids with West when they disagree on certain issues.
“I think it’s always hard when you co-parent and someone wants something and someone doesn’t,” she said. “I think sometimes that’s trial and error.
It’s always a compromise. Nobody will always agree, and you just have to do your best as a parent to protect your children, but also to let them be creative.’
Kardashian, who has done business with Ice Spice — featuring her in a SKIMS campaign — said she heard about the rapper’s work through her oldest daughter.
“Every day the kids get to switch whose music they want to plug in and listen to on their way to school, and North listened to Ice Spice, and I didn’t know who that was at the time,” Kardashian said. . “And I was like, this is when I feel really old, where my daughter is now teaching me what’s cool.”
“That’s when I came up with the idea of putting her in a SKIMS campaign so that everything came through North and what she likes.”

Kardashian went into detail late last year about nurturing North’s artistic endeavors using TikTok as a platform.
“The way she’s so creative, the way she likes to do TikTok and make these videos, and she picks up my phone and does skincare stuff,” she told Gwyneth Paltrow on The goop podcast in December.
Kardashian said North was interested in special effects makeup: “She’ll do scars and faces and bullet wounds — she takes classes on it, and that’s what she likes to do, so she likes to show it off.”
Kardashian explained the rules she imposed on North about having an account.
“I made a rule with their dad about it — he’s not happy about that,” she said. ‘I respect that. But that can only be done on my phone. And it’s not something she can scroll and look at things… we don’t comment.”
Kardashian said the family’s social media experiments weren’t always successful, as an Instagram account North hoped to feature their dogs on “only lasted two days.”
She said the account gave “just too much access,” putting their privacy at risk.
She added, “I’ve found a groove with her TikTok as long as me and her are together and I’m there. That works for now. But it’s a crazy world, I don’t deny that.’
