The announcer died last weekend at the age of 72, surrounded by his family, after his ‘brave battle’ with cancer.

In June 2022, Simon was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, which spread to several of his other organs within two years. In May this year, his doctor told him he had only a few weeks to live.

Simon is survived by his two daughters, Louisa and Gemma, his partner Stana, and his two golden retrievers, Toby and Bobby.

The legendary conservationist met Joanna Page to welcome her as a member of Wildlife Aid, the animal protection charity he founded in 1983.

The actress begins her training as a zookeeper for her new one BBC show Joanna Page’s Wild Life, which airs next year.

Wildlife Aid’s post said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Joanna Page, star of ‘Gavin & Stacey’ and ‘Love actually‘, who has joined us as she begins her training as a zookeeper assistant for the new BBC Two commission ‘Joanna Page’s Wild Life’ (w/t), scheduled to air in 2025. #whatsoccuring’.
