Levi Wright’s mother reveals how rodeo star’s son fell into the creek where he drowned while driving his toy tractor around their Utah home

Levi Wright’s mother has revealed the heartbreaking truth of how the toddler fell into the creek and drowned.

Kallie Wright dove in to save the three-year-old after he disappeared under rushing water on their Milford property. Utahon May 21.

He survived 12 days in the hospital with a glimmer of hope that he could regain brain function, until his life support was turned off on Sunday.

Kallie detailed for the first time Thursday how Levi fell into the creek while driving his toy tractor across their 24 acres of property.

His death was confirmed by a family friend on Monday after his heartbroken parents Kallie and Spencer Wright decided to turn off life support on Sunday.

She explained that the creek separated the property of she and her husband, rodeo star Spencer Wright, from that of Levi’s grandparents.

There is a road across the creek that, depending on the water level, occasionally covers the road at the intersection – as it did on May 21.

‘My children do [ridden] their bikes, rode toys and even walked this way a million times,” she wrote on Facebook.

‘Water only flows for a short time during the year and can change from one day to the next.

“Levi didn’t do anything he hasn’t done before, but this time the water was at its peak and strong enough to push his tractor off the road and into the creek as he drove through.”

Kallie, not knowing the water level, told Levi not to go across the creek because his grandmother wasn’t home, and to just drive around the house.

However, Levi, a free-spirited toddler, didn’t listen.

‘When he drove away, I ran back into the house. That is a decision that will haunt me for the rest of my life,” Kallie wrote.

“At that point, he was my sole responsibility. Whether I went back to check on my sleeping baby, swap laundry, wash a bottle, or put away lunch, I honestly don’t know.

“Whatever it was, it wasn’t more important than following him that day.”

Kallie wrote that even though she believed God predetermined the outcome of everyone’s lives, including when they would end, it still kept her up at night.

“I’ll lose sleep over this for eternity, but with this I know three things to be true,” she wrote, sending a message to people who criticized her actions that day.

‘One: I am not a perfect mother, but I am a good mother. Second, my son loved me with everything he had.

‘Three, never say never, because it only lasts a few seconds and it could happen to you too.

“I pray that anyone who judges me or has hurtful words to say will never find themselves on the receiving end of a nightmare like this.”

The dinosaur-loving boy was taken by ambulance to Beaver County Hospital before being airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

The initial prognosis was devastating, as doctors concluded he had suffered brain death underwater due to lack of oxygen.

But his heart was beating on its own and Levi’s father said the family “received several small miracles” and that doctors were “surprised by the progress he has made.”

Then, on May 24, the family thought the miracle they had prayed for had been granted.

“LEVI WAKE UP!” Kallie wrote, “I’m shocked, we don’t know much but the doctor said it was okay for me to get excited about that, and I am! My baby is so cool!

‘He went a little wild, so we had to calm him down again, but my heart!

‘He woke up while we were talking to one of the doctors about his love for excavators and tractors!’

But just hours later they received much sadder news.

“The MRI was not good,” Kallie wrote.

‘We are devastated, but they are just images that suggest a certain quality of life. Our real narrator will be what Levi does over the course of a few days.”

Kallie posted again last Thursday when another brain scan showed little improvement.

“They are making sure Levi is comfortable, they tried to wean off the anesthesia but he was unable to do so,” she wrote.

‘It was heartbreaking to watch and he is now heavily sedated until the next step.’

On Sunday, Kallie and Spencer finally made the decision they’d been dreading.

“After several sleepless nights, much research, multiple conversations with the best neurologists in the world and millions of prayers, we are here confronted with our greatest fear,” she wrote.

“Here I will soon be crawling into bed with my baby and holding him as he falls asleep for the last time on this earth.

“Levi showed us just enough to give us time for all this.

“We prayed that he would brave the odds and prove to us that he wanted to stay here. But we now see that he wanted to give us time to find peace by letting him go.

“I told you my baby was thoughtful and considerate, I really believe he did that for us.”

Family friend Mindy Sue Clark announced the news of Levi’s death in a Facebook post at 8:14 a.m. Monday.

“I don’t want to focus on the bad or sad, even though it feels like someone ripped my heart out and squeezed it out right before my eyes,” she wrote.

‘I want to focus on the many miracles that we all witnessed during those twelve days. The response to Levi’s story has been absolutely incredible.

“I don’t want to focus on the bad or sad, even though it feels like someone ripped my heart out and squeezed it out right before my eyes.

“Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people surrounded our best little buddy, lifted him up in prayer and wrapped their loving arms around Levi and his family.

‘We have never seen or experienced anything like this before. I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to fully process it.

“I am so grateful for the time I got to be his ‘Aunt Mindy.’ That is a blessing I will never be able to surpass.”

Friends came together with a series of fundraisers for Kallie, Spencer and their other two children, leaving the family stunned by the outpouring of love.

“During this time, he lifted up humanity across the country, bringing many to their knees and reminding them of what really matters in this world,” Kallie wrote.

“We will miss him here every second of every day, but without a doubt we feel this is the best we can do for him.

“We love you, baby beans. I’m going to miss you like crazy my friend!’
