Lorraine Kelly took a cheeky swipe at late James Bond star Sir Sean Connery during her ITV show on Friday.

The presenter, 64, referred to the movie star’s infamous toupee during a discussion about who could play her in a film.

When asked to name an actor, she opted for a fellow Scottish joke: ‘Oh crikey, I don’t know, I don’t know who could do it… Sean Connery, in a wig’.

Before joking, “Well, he always wore a wig, but a longer one.”

Sean, who died in 2020 at the age of 90, played the role of James Bond and according to GQ wore a hairpiece on every outing, just like 007.

According to the publication, his toupee was secured with glue and combed into his thinning locks to achieve a full head of hair.

It comes after Lorraine revealed she is not a big fan of attending high-profile luxury events, despite being one of the biggest stars on daytime television.

The TV presenter, who presents her own show Lorraine and has been on the silver screen for forty years, admits that she still considers herself ‘working class’ because of her upbringing.

According to The mirrorLorraine told Kaye Adams on her How To Be 60 podcast that she is proud of her background but sometimes doubts herself at ‘posh events’.

Lorraine, who lives in Berkshire with her cameraman husband Steve, said: ‘I still have that working-class itch, that voice when you get an invitation to say go and see Prince William for some charity work. You say, “Oh God, I can’t go.”

“It’s weird, I know it’s stupid and I talk to myself about it and say don’t be crazy, but I still feel that way… but yeah, I consider myself working class and I’m there very proud of Het.’

The Scottish star also claimed she hates going to red carpet events, despite attending many in recent years.

When asked to name an actor for the role she chose for her compatriot, she joked: 'Oh crikey, I don't know, I don't know who could do it... Sean Connery, in a wig'

She said, “First of all, it’s a hassle, you have to get ready. It’s probably a Scottish thing: make sure your boots aren’t too big, don’t attract attention. I’m not crazy, I know things will end eventually. But I never take it for granted.”

It comes after former BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin stepped in for Lorraine for a day in December 2023, just before Christmas.

Fans flocked to Twitter during the program to praise the presenter, who quit her long-running role on BBC Breakfast after almost two decades on the show in 2021.

Lorraine is regularly absent from the show, with Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard acting as regular stand-ins for the presenter, but in October Louise made her debut as a presenter following her move from BBC to ITV.

As well as the praise for Louise, viewers were left grumbling about Lorraine’s absence. So the star’s insistence on avoiding her role doesn’t deserve the show’s eponymous title.

Twitter users wrote: ‘I think someone should make a graph or something like that of how many times Lorraine has presented her show this year compared to other presenters. I really think others have presented it more than her #lorraine…

‘No, sorry I don’t have it! How can a TV host have a show named after him but never show up for work? Lorraine Kelly is a disgrace! The show is hosted by everyone except the work-shy Lorraine. It needs to be renamed at this point!…

‘She got away with it for far too long… Why is ‘Lorraine’ called ‘Lorraine’? She’s never on the show… I need as much annual leave as Lorraine.

When Louise quit BBC Breakfast in 2021, she explained: ‘I’ve loved being part of it, but I’ve decided it’s time for me to stop setting my alarm for 3.40am – sometimes when I feeling very rebellious. 46 hours in the morning – and I’m leaving…

‘That won’t be the case for a while, and above all I would like to thank everyone who watched for your loyalty and support over all these years. I absolutely loved being a part of that…

‘I’ll really miss it. But now it’s time to stop that early morning alarm, and also thank you for watching all these years.”
