ITV bosses have lifted a ban on Love Island contestants keeping their social media profiles for the upcoming All Stars series.

MailOnline can reveal that chefs believe that because the contestants have appeared on the program before, they have experienced the ‘pitfalls and negatives’ associated with using platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.

Sources at the channel say that the stars – who are said to have a choice whether to remain present or not.

It comes after Love Island bosses formally introduced a rule in May last year telling contestants to pause all their social media handles and accounts for the duration of their time on the show to ensure that both the Islanders and their families are protected from the adverse effects. of social media.

A Love Island insider told MailOnline: ‘For the All Stars series it has been decided that islanders should have the choice of whether or not they want to remain active on social media.

‘The feeling was that because they have all experienced life in the spotlight and management is advising them, they are already aware of the potential pitfalls and negatives that come with social media.

“Most of them have been in the spotlight for at least a year, so hopefully they can handle what being famous throws at them.”

ITV say they will continue with the language, behavior and relationships training, which they say is ‘really important to ensure we do what we can to prepare islanders for cultural differences and sensitivities.’

Love Island All Stars will launch later this month after bosses decided not to make another series of the winter version of the show, which gives former islanders a new chance to find love.

The program is presented by Maya Jama and former stars such as ex-firefighter Michael Griffiths from the 2019 series, 2022 paramedic Paige Thorne, 2021 Chloe Burrows and 2018’s Samira Mighty are all set to take part.

Like last year’s Winter Love Island, the show is filmed in South Africa.

ITV was forced to tighten their duty of care guidelines following the suicides of presenter Caroline Flack in 2020, as well as former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis.

Series five Islander Amy Hart said her family and friends had to read death threats made against her while she was in the villa.

She said: ‘When I went into the villa I didn’t really take into account that although my best friend was very excited to manage my social media account, it was me who had signed up to do the show, not my family and not my friends.

‘But it was they who had to read the death threats and it was they who had to read the terrible messages.

“Whereas when I came out, I got a great reaction because of the way I left, and they were the ones who were having a hard time when I was there.”
