Calcutta: Sharing more updates on Mamata Banerjee’s health, director of state-run SSKM Hospital Manimoy Bandyopadhyay said the West Bengal Chief Minister was discharged after receiving treatment for her injury. He said the chief minister, who had suffered a deep cut on her forehead after a fall at her residence in Kalighat in Kolkata, had been hospitalized with a “history of (a) falling near her house due to a push from behind”.

The hospital director further said that doctors had placed three stitches on her forehead and one on her nose.

“The Chief Minister of West Bengal presented to our hospital around 7.30 pm today with a history of a fall near her house due to a push from behind. She suffered concussion and a sharp cut on her forehead and nose, which bled profusely,” Manimoy Bandyopadhyay said while addressing reporters outside the hospital.

“She was initially assessed by HoD neurosurgery, HoD medicine and our institute’s cardiologist as it was important that her vital functions were stabilised. Three stitches were placed on the forehead and one on the nose and the necessary bandages were applied. Investigations including ECG, CT scan, etc. have been done. Medical staff gave their views on this,” he said.

He said that although the Prime Minister was advised to stay in hospital, she ‘would rather go home’.

“She was advised to remain admitted for observation, but preferred to go home. She will continue to be closely monitored and will continue to undergo treatment as per the advice of the team of doctors,” the hospital director said, adding: “She will be reassessed tomorrow and subsequent treatment will be decided accordingly. ”
