Man charged following golfer Doey Choi’s tragic death in car crash

A 31-year-old man has been charged following a horrific car crash that killed golfer Doey Choi and her boyfriend William Brown last month.

Choi, 24, was riding a motorcycle behind Brown, 26, when he collided with a car at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Worth Street in Greenacre, NSW, about 20km west of Sydney’s CBD, just before 8pm on the 28th of May.

The pair died at the scene while the driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, was rushed to hospital. He is still in critical condition.

“Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit examined the scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said in a statement on Sunday.

‘A 31-year-old man was arrested at Bankstown Police Station at around 4.30pm yesterday.

‘He was charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving (two counts), dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and organizing to promote or participate in a race between vehicles.

“He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.”

NSW Police believe the motorcycle was part of a convoy at the time of the tragic accident.

“Doey was a tremendous golfer, who proudly represented Australia, and was an exceptionally valued member of the Australian golfing community, who will remember her bright and happy personality, as well as her incredible talent for our game,” the WPGA Tour Australasia said in a heartfelt tribute .

Choi’s family said they were “incredibly heartbroken” after the tragedy.

“Doey brought light and joy to our lives with her bright smile and bubbly personality.

“Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her.

“We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from friends and the wider golf community during this incredibly difficult time.

“Doey will forever be in our hearts and will be greatly missed.”
