Mark Geyer has called out young players looking to leave their club after a pair of losses, following reports that Wests Tigers stars Lachlan Galvin and Stefano Utoikamanu want an early release.

Friday night’s humiliating defeat to the Dragons was the ninth loss in a row for the Tigers, who are now at the bottom of the ladder and heading for another wooden spoon.

Galvin, 18, reportedly told teammates he “can’t wait to leave the club” and expressed his frustration at having to play with a broken hand.

To make matters worse for the Tigers, talented prop Stefano Utoikamanu is also reportedly looking to leave Concord.

Speaking on Triple M’s Mick and MG in the Morning, Geyer hit out at the lack of ‘intestinal strength’ of young players signing for the Tigers.

“It seems to be a general trend that players from lower-ranked clubs only decide to leave once they have lost a series of games,” Geyer said.

‘No child nowadays seems to have such strong intestinal strength after being hit three or four times.

“They want to make a case for release right away, instead of biting their knuckles and biting the mouthguard and saying, ‘Let’s get out of this.’

“They want to go to brighter pastures.”

Geyer then talked about dark days in his own career when he faced setbacks.

“I think my worst was 11 in a row, we lost when I was in Perth with the Western Reds,” he said.

‘There is no sure solution. It’s just hard work. You have to get the training in order and you have to put your shoulders to the wheel.

They are just one win away from getting their season back on track. Tigers fans, stick with them.”

“It just makes me sick to see these young kids wanting a release and going to another club after a few losses.”

NRL great Braith Anasta said it is not a “great look” for Galvin to tell teammates he wants out of the club and the young player needs to focus on his game.

“They’ve given him an opportunity that other clubs might not have because he’s still young,” he said on NRL 360.

‘Benji supported him and gave him a chance. He might not be in this position where bats are chasing him (without the Tigers).

“He’s a young kid that we really need to focus on. However, you also have to protect the child, it doesn’t look good if he gets the chance.

“Then suddenly he says, ‘I don’t want to leave,’ after a few losses. You have to hold on tight, you don’t want to be known when you walk through the sheds.’
