But he was forced off the field late in Etihad’s 3-1 win over Copenhagen with a gruesome finger that appeared broken or dislocated.

Nunes fell and was clearly in extreme pain as he cried out.

And footage showed how bad it was with his middle finger on his left hand bent back 90 degrees at the knuckle.

TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher said: “His finger was grotesquely bent.”

Manchester City’s medical staff continued to treat Wolves’ £53million summer signing, who was also injured earlier this season after a spectacular bicycle kick attempt.

They immediately got to work on the figure and tied it up.

However, Nunes could not continue and was replaced by the younger Micah Hamilton.

But squeamish fans flooded social media with messages after witnessing the nasty injury – with many wishing him a speedy recovery.

One said, “I thought Nunes was just being a little soft at the time. I just saw his finger,” followed by a sick emoji.

Another wrote: “Horrible and painful sight.”

A third added: “Looks awful.”

A fourth wrote: ‘This must be so painful. Get well soon Nunes.’

And one end user replied: “I don’t want to see Nunes’ finger anymore, thanks!!”

City came through 6-2 on aggregate as they looked to defend their status as kings of Europe.

Manuel Akanji fired emphatically towards the goal, followed by an absolutely stinking blunder from Copenhagen’s masked goalkeeper Kamil Grabara after nine minutes.

Mohamed Elyounoussi scored one goal for the Danish side, but Erling Haaland grabbed his 41st Champions League goal to seal the victory.
